Matthew Wilson Lesson Plan Lesson 1 of 2 Unit- Perspective Lesson Title- Introduction to Perspective Time – 80mins Grade Level –8th grade Behavioral Objective- SWBAT Create a 2 point perspective Cityscape complete with 1road, 1 sidewalk, 5 buildings, two flat roofs, doors, and windows Standard- (1) Create, Perform, and Participate in the Arts Procedure0-5mins 1) Anticipatory Set- Greet students, Have them Sit down. And begin working on their daily sketch assignment “word of the day”-(See general classroom procedures for instruction) Go through attendance. 5-8mins 2) Input- Ask the students all the ways they can think of that we use to draw objects in space. After hearing a few answers lead the talk towards using perspective. 8-15mins 3) Modeling- Guide them through The 1st page of handout by having two students read. Use image on sheet to re-explain what text read. 15-20mins 4) Understanding- Use the image on sheet to re-explain what text read. Have students open sketch book and title page perspective (landscape format) Handout rulers. Make sure everyone has a PENCIL and Eraser 20-35mins 5) Modeling/Practice- Have them Follow along in sketchbook while you work on black board. Start by drawing a line across the top and label Horizon Line. Then put a point at the side and label it Vanishing Point. Then draw a rectangle in the lower right hand. Connect corners of rectangle to vanishing point with ruler and label Converging Lines. Add in the Parallel Lines to the sides and erase lines that do not make up the shape. (SEE handout for visual instructions) 35-40mins 6) Modeling/Practice- Have the students choose a capital letter and draw it next to rectangle. Have them create their own converging and parallel lines to gauge if they understand how perspective is done. Help those is need. 40-75mins 7) Modeling/ Practice- Using two point perspective handout on final paper go step by step to create cityscape with the students. Show them the multiple teacher examples to show them what they can make. 75-80mins 8) Clean-up- Clear tables and put away supplies. Everything goes in folders Vocabulary- Horizon Line, Vanishing Point, Converging Lines, Parallel Lines Materials- White Paper, Ruler, Pencil, Eraser, Razor ModificationsThose who are seeing impaired move seats up.
