NOTE CARDS EXERCISE: WEEK 11 GUIDELINES FOR NOTE CARD SIZE AND FUNCTION In order to allow quick access to your research, create three separate sets of cards: SIZE: TYPE OF CARD: 3x5 Bibliography The formatted information on these cards appears on the Works Cited page; arrange these cards by author. 4x6 Quote Write only full quotes from your sources; do not paraphrase or summarize. Arrange these cards by author. 4x6 Subject Create an index of all nouns and adjectives from every quote card, arranged alphabetically by subject (noun or adjective). Give each noun or adjective a separate card. After you finish creating these three types of cards for each source, remember to separate and alphabetize each type of card into its category. When you submit them for a grade, please have three separate sets of cards, each set alphabetized either by the last name of the author (bibliography and quote cards) or subject (subject cards). READ CAREFULLY: For each quote card, list and reference on separate subject cards each noun and adjective from the copied quote. Give each noun or adjective a separate card. Multiple references to the same noun or adjective may go on the same card. As you build your sources, you will have additional information to note concerning both new subjects and subjects about which you have already created cards. Add new subject references to their appropriate cards or create new cards until you have subject cards for every subject (noun or adjective) from all of your source cards. Make a separate card for any and all possible subjects (nouns and adjectives), even if you think them unimportant to your paper. You may need to go back and search through those subjects if you change or modify your thesis.
