Protecting Ecosystems
You work for a government agency and have been assigned to the ERS (ecosystem rescue squad). As a
member of the ERS your main concern is to protect valuable ecosystems in your area and around the world.
Business is slow in the ERS so your boss asks that you research a threatened ecosystem and have a full report
on his desk by Monday. When making your report make sure that you:

Choose an ecosystem that needs protection in Canada or around the world.
Research different factors that are currently threatening your ecosystem. Try to find both
human and natural factors that are destroying this habitat.
Examples: deforestation, invasive species, over predation, global warming, pollution, housing
developments, drainage, fires, etc.
Please be sure to include at least 2 different factors.
Indentify the different threats to your particular ecosystem and explain the source and severity.
And make predictions of what may happen to this ecosystem if the problems continue.
Who are the different stake holders in area of your endangered ecosystem? How might their
views differ? Explain the perspective of the people that are posing the threat and how to they
justify their activities?
Make a proposal of an action plan needed to maintain and sustain this threatened ecosystem.
What could you do to help the problem?
Communicate your findings to the class in the form of a 5 minute presentatation.
