Women in Surgery Committee Core Trainee member The Professional Affairs Division of the College oversees the regulation of the general professional training of surgeons. It is responsible for the formulation and delivery of College policy on education, training and examinations throughout England and Wales. The Women in Surgery committee is a sub group of the Opportunities in Surgery (OiS) Committee, which is part of the Professional Affairs division. The OiS Committee aims to promote diversity in the profession. The committee broadly considers what the College does to encourage people into surgery, considers how we support them to stay in surgery and how we support their development. As a sub-committee of OiS, the Women in Surgery committee consider these issues specifically in relation to women. It also supports directs the activities of the network. Women in Surgery’s mission is ‘to encourage, enable and inspire women to fulfil their surgical ambitions’ Job description Main function To consider policy and make recommendations in the areas covered by Women in Surgery to the main OiS committee To promote and support the Women in Surgery initiative Duties and responsibilities To attend 3 Committee meetings per year To support at least 1 event per year as a representative of the Committee and College. These could include meetings, conferences, careers events and workshops To response to requests from the media as required (appropriate support and guidance provided). To promote and adhere to the equality & diversity policy at all times Committee tenure for Medical Students and Foundation Trainees is for 1 year extendable by an additional year.
