1. I need someone to check my CV, advice about choosing a course, careers
advice.

2. Can I print certificates for Learning Zone resources and can CPD points
be applied to the learning?
The Learning Zone doesn’t currently run on a platform which allows the RCN to track your
individual progress through courses. The NMC requires registered nurses and midwives to write
a ‘reflective record’ of their learning as they feel that nurses are more likely to consolidate what
they have learnt and transfer this learning to their practice. The Learning Zone includes a
‘Reflective Record’ template and an ‘Action Plan’ template with the learning resources so that
you can complete these as evidence of your CPD and compile them for your PREP portfolio. You
can save the completed templates to your RCN Portfolio or your own PC.
3. How do I change the size of the screen?
You can change the size of the screen using the buttons in your browser. It depends what
browser you are using but generally the size of your screen can be altered using Zoom or
increase/decrease text in the View tab.

4. What courses are offered by the RCN?
The RCN doesn’t offer courses however the RCN has joined with the Open University to
encourage greater participation in education and training and as an RCN member you can
receive 10% discount on many courses.

5. What is the file size limit for uploaded documents?
There is a 10MB limit for each file upload but there are no limits on the number of files that you
can upload, subject to fair usage.
6. What scholarships and bursaries could I apply for to assist with further
study?

7. Is there a spellchecker option in the Learning Zone?
At this time there isn’t a spell-check available. If you are using the browser Firefox you can set
an option to check the spelling as you type:

use Firefox do the following to ensure that the spell check is turned on:






Go to Tools
Go to ‘Options’ or ‘Preferences’
Go to Advanced
Go to General
Ensure there is a tick in ‘Check my spelling as I type’
Select OK
When you are in the CV Builder, select edit/view for one of your CV documents, for example
one of your employment records, the grey pop up box appears with the edit box. You can type
into the ‘Details’ box, then right click ‘select ‘Check spelling’ and it will underline anything that is
mis-spelt and offer suggestions for correcting the word.
The Google toolbar includes a spellchecker.
