Import Health Requirements of the Republic of Korea for Pet Birds Exported from Foreign Countries These requirements shall be applied to the pet bird for export to the Republic of Korea(hereinafter referred to as the “pet bird”) based on the requirements as follows: 1. The pet bird should be hatched and raised or have been, for at least 30days prior to the exportation, raised in the exporting country. 2. The exporting country should have, for at least the past 2years, been free from fowl plague. This period may be shortened for the exporting country which the Minister of Agriculture, forestry and Fisheries, Korea has recognized that it is practising a stampingout policy. 3. In case of the outbreaks of Fowl plague, the Government of exporting country should halt the exportation of the pet bird to Korea and, at the same time, provide the Korean Government with details of all the relevant information as soon as possible, and should consult with the Korean Government about resuming the exportation. 4. For the pet bird which is commercially exported to Korea, such pet bird should be isolated and inspected in an embarkation quarantine facilities approved b the Government of exporting country for at least 21days prior to the shipment, and any evidence of the infectious poultry disease should not be presented. 5. For the pet bird which an importer entering into Korea is accompanied by, the requirements laid down in article 1 shall be exempted only where the importer present the certificate issued by the Government veterinary officer of exporting country stating such bird have been inspected before exportation and found to be no evidence of avian infectious disease. 6. Container holding the exported pet bird during the transportation to Korea should be clean one which is not contaminated with any agent of animal infectious disease and the exported pet bird should have been, during the transportation in the exporting country and to Korea, conveyed in a safe way to prevent the contamination with any agent of the infectious poultry disease. 7. The government veterinary officer of the exporting country shall be responsible for issuing a health certificate in English attesting the followings; (1) Statement of fulfillment of the requirements specified in the clauses of Articles 1 and 2, either Article 4 or Article 5 (2) Species and number of the pet bird (3) Shipping date, name of shipping port and vessel(or flight) (4) Name and address of exporter and importer (5) Date and place of issuing the health certificate, and title, printed name and signature of issuer. 8. Without derogation of all the requirements mentioned above, the exported pet bird shall be subject to the import quarantine and inspection by the Korean Government and if evidence of infectious disease is found all the bird in same shipment may be re-exported or destroyed.
