In Worthington, our mission is to help students explore their interests and get a head start on post-secondary education. Each of our high schools offers programs and classes for students to earn both high school and college credit at the same time. This document lists all of the courses students may take those courses and hopefully leave our school district with a number of college credits already on a transcript. The Worthington City Schools offer Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses and are open to all students. Students who choose to participate in PLTW will earn both high school and college credit upon completion of certain courses. Students can also earn college credit for courses in Calculus, PDM, Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and Introduction to Business. Dual Enrollment is a process by which students can earn both high school and college credit at the same time. Our Worthington instructors are approved adjunct teachers (through a partnership with Central Ohio Technical College (COTC)) and teach an approved COTC curriculum. House Bill 95, created in 2003, strengthened the articulation and transfer agreements by developing Transfer Assurance Guides (TAG). Simply stated, if a course we offer through dual enrollment is labeled a “TAG” course, it means that the credit earned for that course will be accepted by any Ohio public college or university. For Worthington students, these are the math, science and business courses listed above. Upon successful completion of these courses, students are granted credit by Worthington and by COTC. Again, that credit is transferable to any Ohio public college or university. What is Career – Technical Credit Transfer and Career-Technical Assurance Guides (CTAG)? In 2005, House Bill 66 expanded Ohio’s articulation and transfer efforts by providing students in Ohio’s secondary and adult career-technical institutions with a similar guarantee for career – technical courses/programs. This became known as Career-Technical Credit Transfer (CT)2 . The ultimate goal is for students to earn technical course credit at a public institution of higher education. Our Worthington instructors teach a state approved curriculum which allows students to be granted CTAG credit upon successful completion of the course. Again, that credit is transferable to any Ohio public college or university. To see Worthington’s approved courses and where they will transfer, go to the Credit Transfer Reporting System. What about Advanced Placement Courses? The Worthington City Schools offer many Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Currently, students may enroll in AP Language, AP Literature, AP Government, AP US History, AP European History, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1, AP Environmental Science, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Spanish, AP French, AP Latin, AP Music Theory, AP Computer Science, AP Studio Art 2D, AP Studio Art 3D, and AP Studio Art Drawing. If you have earned a score of "3" or higher on an AP test, you are guaranteed to receive college credit, mainly in general education areas, upon entrance to any of Ohio’s public institutions of higher education. Click on Transfer Advanced Placement Credit to see if your AP credits transfer. What about the Post-Secondary Education Options program (PSEO)? The Post-secondary Enrollment Options program (PSEO) allows Ohio high school students to earn college credit and/or high school graduation credit through the successful completion of college courses. PSEO is open to students in Grades 9-12 who are Ohio residents, enrolled in the state’s public, community and nonpublic high schools and carry at least a 3.0 grade-point average in the subject they wish to pursue at the postsecondary level. Colleges and universities may have additional criteria for enrollment. Students who are in Grade 9 may enroll for up to eight semesters, or the equivalent of four academic years. Students in Grade 10 may enroll for up to six semesters, or the equivalent of three academic years. Students in Grade 11 may enroll for up to four semesters, or the equivalent of two academic years. Students in Grade 12 may enroll for up to two semesters, or the equivalent of one academic year. Enrollment for students who are in the middle of a year will have their eligibility prorated. Worthington students must notify their counselor by March 31st of their intent to participate and complete the application. Students have the option (A) to take a college course for college credit only and pay the tuition, or (B) to take the course for college and high school credit and the district will pay all costs associated with the course excluding transportation. More resources and information about PSEO can be found on the Ohio Department of Education’s website .
