Peace Week The Quaker Student Life Committee Would like to invite you to participate in our 1st Annual Alternatives to Violence Workshop. What is Alternatives to Violence Project? AVP is a non-profit organization of volunteers offering experiential workshops that empower individuals to liberate themselves from the burden of violence. Our fundamental belief is that there is a power for peace and good in everyone, and this power has the ability to transform our relationships. Save the Date Friday, March 6th beginning at 1pm to 9pm (Lower School Library) Saturday, March 7th 9am to 7pm (Lower School Library) What's an AVP workshop like? AVP believes there is a drive within us all towards peace. Once you can show people that they too have this drive, it's amazing the transformation that can happen. Quakers started it, but AVP is a non-sectarian project facilitated by volunteers with a common principle -- a heartfelt belief that each of us can access the transformational power to avoid violence and create peaceful communities. AVP workshops use the shared experience of participants, interactive exercises, games and roleplays to examine the ways in which we respond to situations where injustice, prejudice, frustration and anger can lead to aggressive behavior and violence. An AVP workshop can help you to: Manage strong feelings such as anger and fear Deal more effectively with risk and danger Build good relationships with other people Communicate well in difficult situations Recognize the skills you already have and learn new ones Be true to yourself while respecting other people Understand why conflict happens This workshop is open to all 11th – 12th grade students, as well as the entire parent community Pre-K – 12th and FA faculty and staff. Please note that participants must attend all 18hrs of training.
