Student Awards and Recognition
The College of Pharmacy Awards Committee administers the selection processes for student awards and recognitions on
an annual basis. For more information, please contact Dr. Laura Hall, Awards Committee Chair, at hall.42@osu.edu.
Graduating Doctor of Pharmacy Awards
•
Faculty Award for Outstanding Graduating PharmD Student of the Year Award – To the outstanding senior chosen
by faculty.
•
Rho Pi Phi – Joe Nichol and Columbus Alumni Award – To a graduating PharmD student in good academic
standing, involved in community outreach programs, and a commitment to scholastics.
•
Benjamin Balshone Student Award –To the senior most likely to succeed in community pharmacy; has an interest
in community pharmacy and shows evidence of professional interest; shows compassion, empathy and
consideration for others; good academic standing in the College; evidence of good performance in internship
experience as furnished by preceptor(s).
•
Council of Ohio Colleges of Pharmacy Student Leadership Award – In recognition of a student in areas of
leadership and service to the college and profession.
•
Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Award – To the student showing leadership in Phi Lambda Sigma organization.
•
Anne L. Burns Award – To a P4 who demonstrates outstanding professionalism, leadership, and service to the
College. (Examples include service through student organizations, support of academics, assistance in college
events, and support of fellow students.)
•
Teva Pharmaceuticals Outstanding Student Award – To a student in recognition of outstanding achievement in the
study of pharmacy.
•
Lilly Achievement Award – To a student with superior scholastic achievement in the professional curriculum,
outstanding leadership qualities, and a professional attitude.
•
Merck Awards – Presented to three outstanding seniors with scholastic achievement in pharmacy studies.
•
SNPhA Award – To a senior student member of SNPhA for outstanding service to the OSU chapter of SNPhA.
•
Facts & Comparisons Award of Excellence in Clinical Communication – Student in the top 25% of his/her class
academically and has demonstrated superior verbal and written clinical communication skills.
•
Mylan Excellence in Pharmacy Award – To a graduating senior in the top 25% of his/her class academically who
has demonstrated high professional motivation; unique ability to communicate drug information; intent to enter
practice upon graduation.
•
APhA-ASP Senior Recognition Certificate – To a student for advancing the profession of pharmacy through
outstanding service to the APhA-ASP chapter at OSU.

College of Pharmacy Professionalism Award – To a senior APHA member who exhibits the ideals of
professionalism and excellence in patient care in all aspects of the academic pharmacy career and demonstrating
exceptional service and commitment to the profession through involvement in professional organizations and
other extracurricular learning opportunities.
•
Ohio Pharmacists Association Student Leadership Award – To a student showing outstanding leadership in The
Academy of Students of Pharmacy.
•
Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database Graduation Award – To a graduating senior who has exhibited
interest and expertise related to natural medicines, including efforts to minimize adverse effects due to an
inappropriate use and to encourage and evidence-based approach to natural medicines.
•
The Stephen W. Birdwell Student Award – To a graduating senior who shows leadership among peers, congeniality
within the College, service to others in the College, and contributes to esprit de corps within the College.
P3 Doctor of Pharmacy Award
•
Women’s Pharmacy Club of Columbus Award – To a female student with strong academic performance (minimum
Cum. GPA of 3.0); significant contributions to the profession (service and leadership in professional organizations or
internships); preference given to women who have traits necessary to balance the challenges of being a female
professional student (personal and professional demands).
P2 Doctor of Pharmacy Award
•
Academy of Pharmacy of Central Ohio (APCO) Student Award – To a student in good academic standing with a
GPA of greater than 3.0; leadership/contributions to student organizations, professional initiatives, community
service activities, etc.; characteristics which exemplify the ideals of the profession.
P1 Doctor of Pharmacy Award
•
The Pauline M. Boyer/Kappa Epsilon Alumni Award – To a female student in good academic standing, leadership,
and characteristics which exemplify the ideals of the profession.
Graduate Student Award
•
Timothy Moore Award – Awarded to a health system pharmacy graduate student who demonstrates strong
communication skills, re in good academic standing, and whose research project will have meaningful impact in
advancing health systems pharmacy.
Graduating BSPS Awards
•
American Institute of the History of Pharmacy Certificate of Student Recognition – To a student who shows
superior achievement in pharmaco-historical study or activity by earning the best GPA in a course devoted to
pharmaceutical history as judged by the instructor.
•
Pharmacognosy Award – Graduating senior who has demonstrated high interest and achievement in
pharmacognosy.
•
BSPS Student Impact Award – To a BSPS student who demonstrates outstanding professionalism, leadership, and
service to the college.

•
BSPS Faculty Award for Outstanding Graduating Student of the Year – To the outstanding graduating BSPS student
of the year.

BSPS Medicinal Chemistry Award – To a graduating student who has demonstrated interest and achievement in
medicinal chemistry through undergraduate lab research.

BSPS Pharmacology Award – To a graduating student based on grades in PHR4400, PHR4600, and elective
pharmacology courses as well as undergraduate research in a pharmacology related area.

Pharmacy Practice and Administration Award – To a graduating student who shows significant involvement in
pharmacy practice during his/her BSPS program years.

Pharmaceutics & PharmChemistry Award – New award for 2015.
