Gunn and Bethke Invite Young Women to Understand
They are Spoken For
Prolific writer Robin Jones Gunn and popular blogger Alyssa Joy
Bethke join together to encourage young women to understand their
value in the eyes of God in Spoken For: Embracing Who You Are
and Whose You Are (Multnomah Books, April 15, 2014). A generation
apart in age, Gunn and Bethke both have a passion for sharing God’s
word and for communicating to young women that they have a part in a
great romance, one with their Creator set in motion before they were
born.
Both involved with ministry to teen and young adult women, Gunn and
Bethke see the longing of this generation to belong, be loved and
included. The authors came together to teach young women that they
already have all these things through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Ten chapters in Spoken For start with “You Are” statements, including
“You are Wanted,” “You Are of Great Value,” and “You are Pursued.” They unwrap ancient truths
from God’s word on what it means to be loved, sought after and spoken for. In addition, the writers
share their own firsthand stories of romantic successes and failures on their journeys to discovering
that God already had what they were looking for all along.
Gunn and Bethke show how the Bible is a love letter written to us. “Our goal is simple,” they write.
“We want you to see what happens when you respond to the invitation of the true Bridegroom and
step in the center of an epic love story—yours.”
More than 25 years ago, Gunn wrote her first book, the initial installment in the Christy Miller Series
of young adult romances, which went onto influence thousands of young girls on prioritizing their
relationship with Christ. Bethke was one of those girls who read Christy Miller as a teen, and it
significantly impacted her relationship with her Lord. Years later, Gunn and Bethke met in Maui
where Gunn lives and Bethke served as a church intern. The two became fast friends and discovered
their hearts were knit together over the desire to reach young women with the truth of God’s love.
The result of their mutual passion is Spoken For, their first collaboration together.
