Tuesday 3rd March 2015
Dear Parent/Guardian,
 WORLD BOOK DAY
Just a quick reminder that the children are invited to dress-up as their favourite book character on World Book
Day, Thursday 5th March. Declan Carville local author will be visiting the school that day. He will carry out a
number of writing workshops with the children and explore how his books were published. The Travelling book
fair will also be in school from Monday 9th March in the Foundation Stage hall.
 ST PATRICK’S DAY
The school will have a special ‘Green Day’ on Friday 13th March to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. We are asking
that children who come to school dressed in green to donate £1.00 per family in aid of St Dominic’s Zambia
Appeal. The school will close for St Patrick’s Day on Friday 13th March at 12.00 noon and will reopen on
Wednesday 18th March.
 SAINSBURY VOUCHERS
As you know the school is continuing to collect the Sainsbury vouchers. To date we have collected approximately
350 vouchers. Please keep collecting so that we can purchase much needed sports equipment for the school.
 CURRICULUM CONTENT
Please find enclosed the Curriculum Content booklet for term 2:2 (Mar-April). This information provides you
with an overview of what the children will be learning this term. We hope that you will read this carefully and
use it to help support your child’s learning at home. Please use the information to have a chat with your child
about themes and topics, books the children are reading and maths that they are learning. Additionally you can
use the stories that children will be discussing in Religion to enhance or begin prayer life in your home. At the
bottom of each page you will find other information called ‘notes’ that informs you of events etc that each class
will be partaking in this half term.
 RIGHTS RESPECTING SCHOOLS WEEK
The Rights Respecting School’s Award is an initiative run by UNICEF UK, which encourages schools to put the
United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of its ethos and curriculum.
We feel that a “Rights Respecting” ethos already exists in St Teresa’s as the programme is very complimentary to
our Catholic ethos and links very well to established initiatives such as the Media Initiative programme, our
Student Council, our Global school link with St John Bosco PS (Uganda), Fair Trade Education, our PDMU
Curriculum, our Morning Star charitable appeal and Trocaire campaign.
We will launch the project by having a “Rights Respecting Week” for all pupils from the 23rd to 27th March.
There will be assemblies, classroom discussions, role play, writing, games and art activities. The children will
learn about some rights and create a “Class Charter” for display in each classroom.
Mrs Branniff is currently setting up a “Steering Group” who will lead this project throughout our school. This
includes members from our school community including the Principal, School Governor, parents, teachers,
pupils, classroom assistants and school caretaker.
We will keep you informed of our progress by newsletter and school website, and would welcome any
contributions or involvement from across our school community.
Yours Sincerely,
Principal
