Name: ______________________ Box: ______ Home Circuit Construction Task: Design the floor plan of a kitchen (you can base it off of the one at your home or make up your own). Your stove should be regulated by one fuse/circuit breaker and the rest of the appliances are regulated by another fuse/circuit breaker. Make a schematic diagram of the circuits that are required to power the electrical appliances in the kitchen. Include switches, resistors (any appliance), fuse/circuit breaker, and power supply (lines coming in from outside). Label what each resistor is. Possible appliances include: refrigerator, electric stove/oven, microwave, toaster, and overhead light. Build: Make a two-dimensional working model of electrical wiring in the kitchen. Use Christmas tree lights as resistors (any type of appliance) along with a drawing or computer printout of the device. Your power supply should come in from the outside. Your overhead light must be controlled by a switch. You are challenged to control the light as you would in your house via a 3-way switch (be able to turn it on/off from two different light switches). You will have to research on how to do this. Tips for research: Sample wiring diagrams Wiring for fuses Different types of switches Power usage for appliances Materials: Christmas tree lights, Battery, insulated wire, something to connect and hold the ends of wires together (electrical tape, wire caps, clips etc.), something to make switches out of (not manufactured).
