Dear Parents,
Each school receiving assistance under Title 1 Part A, must ensure effective involvement of parents and support a
partnership between the school, the parents, and the community. This is to improve student academic achievement
through training, information, and coordination activities. Clarkdale Elementary has built an activities plan with
input from the parents and school staff. Listed below are the activities planned for this school year. Activities are
subject to change.

Six Standards to Build Parents’ Capacity Plan

Our parents are involved in the decisions regarding how the 1% reserved fund will be used for parental
involvement. The input was gathered from the 2012-2013 Parent Survey that was sent home in January
2013
Standard 3 – Title 1 School Wide Plan Parent Input Meeting: Wednesday, August 14, 2013, 8:15 a.m. –
Meeting to give parents the opportunity to be involved in the planning, developing, and reviewing of the
Title 1 School Wide Plan.
Standard 1 – “Parent Academy” Kindergarten Survival Guide: Thursday, August 22, 2013, 8:15 a.m. –
Parent Presentation to provide kindergarten parents with information to assist them in making the
transition to school a positive and successful experience.
Standard 2 – “Parent Academy” Math for All, Donuts for Dad: Wednesday, August 28, 2013, 7:15 -7:50
a.m. – An informational social event for students to spend a special morning with their dads and learn
math strategies they can do at home as a family.
Standard 2 – Marching into Math Night: Tuesday, August 27, 2013, 6:00 p.m. - Math activity night for
the entire family to provide simple activities, tools and strategies to reinforce the standards taught in
school.
Standard 2 –“Parent Academy” Building a Bridge between Home & School: Thursday, September 5,
2013, 8:15 a.m. – Parent Presentation to teach parents about the Highly Effective Teaching Model we
use here at Clarkdale. Will discuss how HET affects the child’s brain and enhances their learning as well
as the LIFESKILLS and Lifelong Guidelines.
Standard 1 and 2 –“Parent Academy” Making Sense of the New Math: Tuesday, October 15, 2013 8:15
a.m. – Math Question & Answer session for parents facilitated by Rachel Scott, Cobb County Area 1
Math Coach. This is an opportunity for parents to address their grade specific questions and gain a
better understanding of how to assist their children at home with math.

Standard 1 and 2 – Annual Title 1 Parent Information Meeting: Tuesday, October 22, 2013 8:15 a.m. –
9:15 a.m. – Meeting to inform parents of Clarkdale’s participation in the Title I program. At this meeting, an
explanation of the Title I requirements and the rights of parents to be involved in those programs will be discussed.
Standard 6 – “Parent Academy” Kid Safety Training for Parents: Thursday, November 14, 2013 8:15 a.m. –
Training to inform parents on Safety tips and strategies for home and school. Presented by Detective Brian Graham
of the Cobb County Police Department.
Standard 1 and 2 – “Parent Academy” Links to Home Learning: Thursday, December 12, 2013 8:15 a.m. – Training
for Parents by Rhonda Miller (Technology Coach) that will lead them on an informative cyber journey
exposing them to learning sites reinforcing strategies learned at school, prepare students for the state
wide assessment, and provide links to homework assistance.
Standard 1 and 2 – Parent Assessment Information Night, Tuesday, January 14, 2014 6:00 p.m. – 7:00
p.m. – Informative session to provide parents with tools and strategies to help their child prepare for
upcoming assessments
Standard 6 – “Parent Academy” Operation Breaking the Girl Code, Thursday, January 23, 2014 8:15
a.m. – Parent Training to promote positive peer interactions among girls. Presented by Dr. Patti
Agatston, Prevention Intervention Center.
Standard 1 – Home Depot Math and Science Night, Tuesday, February 11, 2014 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Families will relate real world experiences to math and science standards.

8:15 a.m. – Math Question & Answer session for parents facilitated by Rachel Scott, Cobb County Area 1

Standard 1 – “Parent Academy” May I Have Your Attention Please, Thursday, March 20,2014 8:15 a.m.
Parent Presentation on ways to recognize children with possible ADD and ADHD. Strategies to assist
these types of students with learning and behavior.
Standard 1 and 2- “Parent Academy” Test Prep Jeopardy, Thursday, April 17, 2014 8:15 a.m. Parents
will review test taking tips and strategies to help their child prepare for upcoming assessments through
a jeopardy game format. Handouts will be given for resources.
Standard 2 – “Parent Academy” Math for All, Muffins for Mom, May 7, 2014 7:15 -7:50 a.m. – An
informational social event for students to spend a special morning with their moms and learn math
strategies they can do at home during the summer as a family.
