SPRING MILLS
PRIMARY NEWS
September 2015
IMPORTANT DATES
Growing Green. We Plant the Seeds!
Welcome to the start of a great school year! I
am so excited to be a part of the Spring Mills
Primary family. It has been a busy summer
and we have many exciting things planned for
your children this year. We had a great
opening and I thank you for sharing and
trusting us with your children!
One of our first initiatives is the creation of an
additional playground. It will be located
between Spring Mills Primary and Spring
Mills Middle. We are very excited and are in
the process of selecting equipment and
securing bids! The playground will be
completed in phases and we will complete it as
money becomes available. If you would like to
have input or would like to donate money
please call the school. We welcome everyone!
We encourage each care giver to become
involved with our school. We welcome your
input and hope that you will make your child’s
education a priority. Together we can and will
do great things for your children! There are
many ways to volunteer at our school. We also
hope that you will join the PTA. It is the best
five dollar investment you can make!
Last and most importantly we ask that you
read with and to your child each day. Take a
moment to see how your child’s day went. If
they have a concern please let us know. We
want each child at our school to do their best
work each day and to reach their potential.
Mark your calendars!

GUIDANCE CORNER
CHARACTER COUNTS
Mrs. Jennings, our school counselor, is incorporating
“Core Essentials” into her Character Counts
Program. This program provides a “Value” a month.
The value for September is Initiative and the animal
that symbolizes this value is the Beaver. Look for a
monthly guidance newsletter from Mrs. Jennings.
STUDENT ABSENCES
Under our Attendance Policy, as directed by the State
Department of Education, Mrs. Jennings will be
contacting parents or guardians by phone when a
student is absent. Please be sure to send in a note when
your child is absent, within 48 hours of the absence.
Students arriving after 8:45 am are tardy and will need
to be signed in at the office, with a note written to the
teacher explaining why they are late. We provide
yellow tardy slips at the office counter for your
convenience.
Regular school attendance directly impacts your
child’s academic success!
AIT DAYS – Six 2 hour delay days for students, have been planned for 2015-2016. They are scheduled as
follows: September 8, November 12, December 8, 2015; January 19, February 16, and April 12, 2016.
During this time teachers will work together to study data, share instructional strategies, and set goals in order
to increase student achievement. These dates are subject to change due to impending inclement weather.
Student drop off time on AIT days will be 10:25 am.
STUDENT DISMISSAL PROCEDURES - Please send a note to your child’s teacher if you are changing their
usual plan for transportation home. This includes parent pick-up and bus change. For liability reasons, we need
this in writing, and cannot make bus changes via phone calls. Also, please send a note to the teacher if your
child will be leaving early for a doctor or dentist appointment. We ask that you are always prepared to show a
valid driver’s license or state issued ID when picking up your child.
