Proposal Information/Funding Request
* If a group of students is applying together, this section must be completed just once by the entire group. If students
will take on different roles and responsibilities in the completion of the project, please describe that under #3.
1. Give your request a title
2. Indicate your field of study, research, or creative activity
3. Please list all individuals, including your faculty mentors, who will assist in your project. Be sure to describe their
roles in the work.
4. Please provide a clear and thoroughly description of your project or activity for which you are requesting funds.
Include some details about the location of your project – where will this work take place? Please offer the
committee a concise summary if your materials exceed 3-pages. Follow the recommendations below, as they
apply to your proposal.
For student conducting original research, please address each of the following:
Please note, if you are performing research with human participants, you must have IRB approval prior to
requesting funding. You may contact the WNMU IRB at wnmu-irb@wnmu.edu.
In some cases, simply including the approved, IRB submission would satisfy this section.
Objective: Describe the precise goal of the project. What specific question will be answered, or what contribution
do you hope to make? What themes do you want to explore? What do you hope to accomplish?
Significance: Describe why your question is intellectually important. If appropriate, critique the peer-reviewed
literature to illustrate what others have done in relation to your question.
 How will your project contribute to the literature or the field?
Methodology: Explain what, precisely, you will do to answer the question you are posing or make the
contribution you aim to make.
 Explain the steps you will take to achieve these goals, how you will achieve them, and what obstacles you
anticipate.
 Provide a timeline to give a clear picture of how your project will develop. Describe milestones that will
gauge your progress within that timeline.
For student planning to attend a conference or complete professional development, please address each of
the following:
Objective & Significance: Describe the goal of attending this conference/workshop. What specific learning,
training, or exposure to a scholarly domain do you hope to gain? Describe why this experience is important.
How will your participation in this contribute to your academic studies and professional growth? How might
your learning extend beyond yourself to other WNMU students unable to attend?
Growth Potential: How might participation as an “attendee” be elevated to that of “contributor” if you were to
receive funding.

5. Resources & Preparation: How will you draw on the expertise of your faculty mentor? Are there other contact
people who will be instrumental in your project? What specific steps have you taken to prepare for this project?
Have you taken courses in the methods or techniques that directly relate to the project design you described
above?
6. Dissemination: How will your project be shared with the larger WNMU community? If you are attending a
conference, will you host a “brown-bag” event to share your learning with colleagues when you return? If you are
creating something, how will you display or present it once completed? If you are conducting research, where will
your results be presented?
7. Please specify the amount of funding you are requesting, including a detailed budget of how monies will be
allocated. How much money do you need, and what will it be used for? How does each item in the budget
contribute to your overall project? For each item requested, include documentation to support the amount noted.
You might print a quote to document the price of equipment, print an airline quote for a flight, include hotel rates
from an online service, or map your trip using an online trip calculator.
Funding is limited, and our goal is to allow these monies to help as many students as possible each year, so you are
expected to include the most affordable, cost-efficient options for travel and equipment. Students are expected to
share rooms, and any request for exception to that must be justified. Any purchases made in advance to the review
of your submission may be excluded from consideration.
Please note that standard equipment that is regularly available through academic departments will not be funded
through these monies. Your mentor should be aware of what equipment should come from other budgets.
Also, students are expected to make reasonable contributions to their own scholarly activities, and we ask you to
describe those under #8 below.

8. Please indicate if you have received other sources of funding for this project, or if other fund ing is available
through your advisor?
Have your ever received from this source of funding before?  NO  YES
If yes, please briefly describe when and for what project.
Please also describe/define any contributions you are making to this project. How have you already invested or
plan to invest your own resources into your scholarly endeavors?

Requests made of Awardees: As determined by the review committee that approves funding, awardees are required to
submit a summary of the project in the form of a one page final report, and additional requests of the awardee may be
made. The expected submission date of that report will be communicated in the letter of award. In addition, awardees
will send the committee any presented/accepted abstracts for presentations at regional or national meetings,
submitted/accepted publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or professional or personal developments (e.g., a job or
advanced educational pursuits) that are based on or a result of the funded project. Acceptance of the funding is taken as
agreement to fulfill these requirements. Any failure to fulfill such requirements may result in denial of future funding or
the request for return of funding.
Submission Certification:
As the author of this request, it is essential that you review your submission to ensure it is accurate and
appropriate. Requests made by faculty on behalf of students will not be considered.
By completing and submitting this request, you acknowledge that you, the student(s):
 Are the primary author(s) of this request
 have completely reviewed the submission and verify its accuracy
 give your assurance of the funding request, including validity of calculations for cost of travel and/or equipment
needs
