Hickory Elementary School PTA Sponsored Scholarship
The Hickory Elementary School PTA Scholarship was created to recognize a former Hickory Elementary student
planning to continue their education with a college, university, trade school or certificated program. This $1,000
scholarship is awarded annually to one applicant who meets the criteria of eligibility and submits all documents
and attachments with the completed application by the specified deadline.
Eligibility and Requirements:
1. Applicant must be a senior in high school.
2. Applicant must have attended Hickory Elementary for a minimum of three completed years (grade levels).
3. Applicant must provide a copy of their letter of acceptance and commitment from the college, university,
trade school or certificated program the applicant plants to attend in the fall of 2015.
4. Applicant must provide a sealed transcript from their high school guidance counselor with a minimum
GPA of 2.0.
5. Applicant must complete the application and if applicable, attach a one-page resume to include extracurricular activities, awards/honors and community service.
6. Applicant must write a one-page essay describing your education and memories at Hickory and why you
would like to be considered for the scholarship.
7. Applicant must provide two letters of recommendation, one academic and the other from a non-family
member reference commenting on your abilities, reliability, determination and capacity to achieve.
Scholarship Application Process:
Scholarship application, attachments and essays will be judged by a blind panel with no ties to Hickory Elementary
School. The panel will review all information supplied with the application, including the GPA, however more
importance is allocated to the essay portion and letters of recommendation. Only applications with all required
materials present will be accepted and presented to the panel. All applications MUST be mailed. NO hand
delivered applications will be accepted.
The winner will receive a certificate at their high school awards ceremony from the current Hickory Elementary
PTA President or the Scholarship Committee Chair. If unable to be presented in person at the awards ceremony, a
formal letter will be mailed to the student no later than June 15th. The scholarship check will be made payable to
the college, university, trade school or certificated program and mailed directly to the school. The check may be
used for tuition, books and associated materials, or room and board for on-campus housing.
