A
ACACIA GUM
Commonly known as Arabic Gum, this natural gum substance is taken from two sub-Saharan species of the Acacia
tree: Acacia Senegal and Acacia seyal. It is used primarily as a stabilizer and natural thickener in foods.
ALMOND MEAL
Moistened with sweet almond oil, almond meal helps replenish skin oils lost during the cleansing process, while
producing a gentle massaging effect during exfoliation.
ALOE BARBADENSIS or ALOE VERA GEL
The pulpy, expressed juice of the aloe vera plant, this substance is famous for its moisturizing and soothing
properties, as well as for its ability to aid in healing. Excellent for hydrating, softening and soothing it is believed
to have healing properties, especially for sunburned skin, provided the extract has not been altered during
processing.
ALPHA BISABOLOL
Bisabolol. Alpha bisabolol is a naturally occurring liquid that is the main component of German chamomile. It has
been used for hundreds of years in Europe in medicinal applications to help accelerate the healing process of the
skin. It has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory, anti-irritant, and anti-bacterial properties and is used in skin,
hair and oral care preparations because it is also non-toxic and non-irritating.
ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE
The hydroxide salt form of aluminum, this substance used as an emulsion stabilizer.
AMYRIS OIL
Amyris balsamifera. Also known as West Indian sandal wood oil, this oil is pleasantly woody with a balsamic
touch and is used as a fixative in perfumes. Historically Amyris oil was used for wound cleaning and for recovery
from influenza and childbirth. With its antiseptic properties, Amyris is typically used to prevent or reduce infection
and is thought to reduce swelling and increase circulation.
ANISE OIL
Pimpinella anisium or illicium verum. Well known for its sweet aroma and taste, this oil has a rich licorice scent. It
has antiseptic properties, is slightly astringent and is thought to help induce perspiration.
APRICOT KERNEL OIL
Prunus Armeniaca. An extremely desirable moisturizer rich in vitamins A and E, apricot kernel oil is extracted
from the inedible kernels found in the apricot pit. The oil helps skin retain elasticity and suppleness without feeling
greasy. It is especially effective when used on dry or mature skin.
ARABIC GUM

ASCORBIC ACID (vitamin C)
The scientific name for vitamin C, this nutrient is typically found in fresh fruits and vegetables. It can stimulate
skin protein production when applied to the skin.
AVOCADO OIL
Persea gratissima. This precious, natural oil is derived from the flesh of the avocado fruit, a tropical plant from
Central America and California. It is rich in vitamins A, C and E, as well as protein and amino acids. One of the
few vegetable oils containing protein, avocado oil penetrates the skin deeply without leaving an oily film on the
skin. It promotes the regeneration of scarred skin and softens and conditions dry, flaky skin and scalp.

BASIL OIL
Ocimum basilicum. Steam distilled from the leaves of the herb, this light yellow green essential oil has a clear,
herbaceous and light refreshing scent with a faint balsamic woody backnote and a lasting, slightly licorice,
sweetness. It is used in aromatherapy for stimulation — especially for the respiratory system — and it has
traditionally been used to treat bronchitis, colds and sinusitis, as well as to treat muscle aches and rheumatism.
BEE POLLEN EXTRACT
Rich in plant hormones, proteins, amino acids, enzymes, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, this
substance provides protection for the skin by increasing its blood supply to stimulate cell growth, preventing
dehydration and soothing wrinkles.
BEESWAX
A natural wax made by bees in the cell walls of honeycombs, this substance is a natural emulsifier used in
cosmetics. It adds a wonderful natural smell and color to products and helps to seal and protect the skin when used
in moisturizing formulas.
BENTONITE
This natural clay is an effective skin clarifier used in facial masks. It takes its name from Fort Benton where
bentonite deposits are found.
BERGAMOT OIL
Citrus bergamia. Bergamot oil has an uplifting citrus, yet fruity aroma that is both refreshing and relaxing with a
warm spicy undertone that is similar to neroli and lavender oil. Bergamot oil is known for its antiseptic qualities
and is used to control the oil in the skin and for the treatment of acne. The oil is produced by cold expression of the
peel of the nearly ripe fruit of the citrus bergamia tree, which belongs to the same family as the orange tree and is
native to Southeast Asia, southern Italy, Morocco and the Ivory Coast.
BETA-CAROTENE
This substance is found primarily in carrots and is used to give personal care products a yellow to orange-red
color. The body converts beta-carotene into vitamin A.
BETAINE
A natural supplement derived from sugar beets, this substance is used in skin care products as a moisturizer and
stabilizer due to its unique water binding and cell membrane protective properties. Because of its apparent ability
to improve skin feel and increase the spreading property of formulations, betaine is ideal for a wide range of
cosmetic applications.
BILBERRY EXTRACT
Extracted from the leaves and fruit of the bilberry shrub, this extract is an astringent, cooling herb that tones the
skin. It is also a natural Alpha Hydroxy Acid.
BITTER ORANGE
Citrus aurantium. The aroma of this essential oil is sweet like an orange, but with grapefruit-like undertones. In
skin care preparations, orange oil reduces puffiness and discourages dry wrinkled skin. Both the oil and the peel
are used to clear blemishes and increase perspiration, thus assisting the release of toxins from dull or blemished
skin. The peel is used as a natural exfoliator.
BLACK CURRANT OIL
This essential oil promotes healthy skin and hair. It supplies omega-3 Alpha Lipoic Acid and omega-3 Stearidonic
Acid, plus omega-6 Gamma Linolenic Acid. Keeps hair healthy and moisturized.
BLADDERWRACK
Derived from thallus of Fucus vesiculosus, bladderwrack is a seaweed. This extract is recommended for toning the
skin and stimulating cell activity. Great in baths, bladderwrack provides various minerals and salts that cleanse and
refresh the skin.
BORAGE SEED OIL
This plant-derived triglyceride oil is high in Gamma Linoleic Acid and is an exhilarating tonic that stimulates and
conditions the skin. This essential fatty acid is vital to the health of skin.
BORONIA OIL
Extremely expensive oil from the native Australian evergreen shrub that bears its name, this oil's fresh fruity-spicy
scent and rich tenacious undertone is prized for high-end fragrance blends.
BURDOCK ROOT EXTRACT
Burdock, a member of the thistle family, has been used for centuries to improve dry, scaly skin disorders,
specifically dandruff and itchy scalp. Rich in essential fatty acids necessary for a healthy scalp, burdock root
extract improves the luster, body and strength of the hair shaft.
BUTTERMILK
This specialty milk is richer in fats and emollients than whole milk. For centuries, milk has been used as a natural,
soothing skin cleanser and skin softener.
BRAZIL NUT OIL
A wonderful hair conditioner, bringing shine, silkiness and softness to hair, this oil renews dry, lifeless hair and
split ends. It also provides antioxidant benefits with its high selenium content and helps prevent dryness and leaves
scalp soft, smooth and hydrated.

CALENDULA FLOWER
Calendula officinalis of the Marigold plant. Calendula is classified as an anti-inflammatory and is often used to
treat itching, flaking, weeping skin conditions. It is a wonderful, emollient oil that has a soothing effect on the skin
and is an effective ally in treating water retention, cellulite, and special needs of mature skin.
CALCIUM CARBONATE
Natural chalk is an absorbent for facial oils and helps smooth out the complexion. It is also a natural abrasive in
toothpaste, helping to keep teeth bright and breath fresh.
CAMPHOR
This cooling, highly stimulating herb is used to treat oily skin and acne.
CANDELILLA WAX
Eupohorbia certifera. This natural wax from the Candelilla plant, grown in Mexico, is obtained by boiling the
plant. It gives personal care formulas body and sheen. Used in cosmetics as a thickener.
CARAMEL
Natural colorant.
CARMINE
We are aware that for some people who adhere to strict vegan or vegetarian lifestyles, it is hard to understand why
we would choose to use this ingredient in our products. Carmine, as you may already know, is an extract taken
from the shells of the cochineal beetle. It is a common ingredient used in the cosmetic and food industry. We
choose to use this ingredient because it is natural and it provides a unique red/blue pigment in our formulas,
without compromising our product quality and aesthetic standards. We believe it is a better alternative to
compounds such as D&C Red #7, D&C Red #6, which are 100% synthetic, or FD&C No. 40, which is derived
from coal tar (a non renewable fossil fuel). While there are other natural pigments, we do not feel they provide a
desirable color and feel and we will continue to investigate raw natural materials that could replicate the properties
of carmine in our color products.
CARNAUBA WAX
Derived from the leaf of a Brazilian palm known as "the tree of life," this edible wax is often used in making
candies. It has the highest melting point of any natural wax found on earth.
CARRAGEENAN
Chondrus crispus. Derived from a red seaweed and also known as Irish Moss, this substance is used in foods as a
thickener and in cosmetics for its excellent emollient qualities.
CARROT SEED OIL
Daucus carota sativa. This thin, yellow oil distilled from ground seeds is rich in Beta-Carotene and is valued for its
soothing, relaxing properties. It is believed to stimulate cell renewal as well as the sweat and sebaceous glands. It
is beneficial to mature or dry skin, helping to deter or reduce wrinkles. It also protects skin exposed to weather
extremes. The oil has a heavy, woodsy, earthy, fruity scent.
CASTOR OIL
This oil extracted from the castor bean is a moisturizer and natural pigment dispersant.
CEDAR LEAF OIL
Cedarwood atlas. Antiseptic and astringent, this oil balances and regulates oil production. It is often used for its
aromatic scent.
CENTRIMONIUM BROMIDE
This chemical salt compound enhances hair's manageability by reconditioning hair and promoting shine.
CETEARYL ALCOHOL
This emulsifying wax is produced by combining a mixture of fatty alcohols derived from vegetable sources.
CHAMOMILE
Anthemis nobilis. There are two chamomiles: Roman and German. Both produce the light blue oil, azulene, which
has been used since ancient times for its invigorating qualities. Rejuvenating and relaxing, European facialists rave
about this fragrant annual herb. Massage oil with chamomile is good for dry skin, dermatitis, acne, burns and
inflammation. Bathing with chamomile is soothing, helps menstrual problems, aches and pains related to exercise,
anxiety, stress and irritability. Chamomile has very low toxicity, so it often used in children's personal care
products.
CHLOROPHYLL
This green pigment dominates the plant kingdom. It is used as a natural colorant and deodorizer in personal care
products.
CHOLESTEROL
This substance is a moisturizer and emollient.
CHROMIUM OXIDE GREEN
This natural green colored pigment used in a wide variety of products, especially food and personal care formulas
because of its safety as compared to synthetic colorants.
CILANTRO OIL
This oil is commonly used as a scent. As an aromatherapy agent, it is relaxing, stabilizing, gently clarifying.
CINNAMON OIL
Cinnamomum cassia. This natural essential oil of the Cinnamon tree is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves,
bark and twigs and is used in skin care preparations for its spicy, awakening fragrance.
CITRIC ACID
This natural Alpha Hydroxy Acid is found in citrus fruits and is a gentle exfoliator for skin.
CITRONELLA OIL
Cymbopogon schoenanthus. Derived from Citronella grass, this fragrant oil is used in insect repellents. It is also
used as a raw material in the manufacturing of other oils and is used extensively in soap making.
CLARY SAGE
Historically valued by the Egyptians and Greeks for its reputed ability to relax the nerves and improve memory,
this essential oil is most often used as a fixative in perfume blends, adding a lavender-like note. Commonly
referred to as clear eye, the sticky solution derived from clary seeds has long been used to rid the eyes of foreign
matter and to soothe as a natural demulcent.
CLOVE OIL and POWDER
Eugenia caryophyllus. Both substances are extracted from the buds of an aromatic tropical evergreen and have
warming, antiseptic, disinfectant and a pain relief properties. Both lend a sweet, spicy note to skin care
formulations.
COCOA BUTTER
Triglycerides of fatty acids made from the beans of the cacao tree (Theobroma Cacao). Cocoa butter is a superb
emollient that softens and protects chapped skin, relieves irritation and diminishes signs of wrinkling and stretch
marks. It is also helpful as a binder or thickener in natural cosmetic formulas where chemical thickeners are not
used. It has a sweet chocolate smell.
COCO BETAINE
This coconut oil moisturizer enriches lather in shampoos and inhibits static build-up.
COCO GLUCOSIDE AND GLYCERYL OLEATE
This natural surfactant soap blend is made from coconut oil and sunflower oil. It is an extremely mild and effective
cleanser that rinses quickly, it is biodegradable and offers a natural alternative to harsh chemicals.
COCONUT OIL
Cocos nucifera. The flesh of the coconut is rich in emollient fat and, when pressed, yields a white, sweetly-scented,
super-moisturizing oil, which is a solid at room temperature but easily melts on the skin. The consistency of
coconut oil helps to bind and emulsify natural formulations where no chemical emulsifiers are desirable. Usually
blended with other fats, the oil is the volatile, fragrant oil popularly used in suntan products. It protects skin from
the elements by forming a thin film, which is not absorbed. Coconut oil is useful as an after sun skin oil and is also
revitalizing to dry, damaged hair. Surfactants derived from coconut oil have good cleansing properties and are
known for their mildness.
COMFREY
Comfrey contains allantoin, a cell proliferant, which stimulates new cell growth and increases cell production to
support more rapid healing. Comfrey aids in soothing inflammation, burns, wounds, swelling and bites.
COPAIBA BALSAM OIL
Harvested from the copaiba tree by making incisions in the tree trunk, the oleoresin (a clear yellow resin) is really
more of an oil than a true balsam. It is most commonly used as a fragrance perfumes, soaps and lotions.
CORIANDER OIL
Corriandrum setivum. This sweet, spicy, warm and slightly fruity essential oil is expressed from the mature seed of
the coriander plant. It was used for centuries by the Egyptians as an aphrodisiac. The Greeks and Romans used the
seeds to flavor wine. And in India, it is highly valued for culinary uses. As an aromatherapy agent, it is analgesic,
carminative, anti-spasmodic and stimulating.
CORN STARCH
Zea mays. Derived from the corn plant, this highly absorbent substance absorbs both moisture and oils. It produces
a soft, soothing feeling in face masks , and is added to creams and lotions to help them spread on the skin more
easily.
CORNFLOWER
The cornflower was commonly used through the 1920's as both a medicinal and culinary herb. The blue flowers
have astringent properties that help reduce inflammation.
CORNMEAL
Milled from corn and corn cobs, these natural abrasives are effective, yet safe, for your skin.
CRANBERRY EXTRACT
Emerging evidence suggests cranberry extract may help to inhibit certain plaque-causing bacteria from adhering to
teeth.
CUCUMBER EXTRACT
The juice extracted from the vegetable is mildly astringent, yet soothing and can help reduce puffiness of the skin.
Cucumber also has a slight bleaching action, which aids in removing dead skin cells.
CUPUACU BUTTER
Theobroma grandiflorum. This butter is extracted from the seeds of the cupuacu tree, a rain forest species related
to the cocoa tree. The butter is creamy and emollient and contains phytosterols that act at the cellular level,
regulating the balance and activity of the lipids of the outermost layer of the epidermis. With its high capacity for
water absorption, it offers a pleasant touch and softness, rebalancing moisture and improving elasticity while
restoring skin integrity.

This oil is commonly used as a scent. As an aromatherapy agent, it is normalizing, relaxing, stabilizing.
DEAD SEA SALTS
Obtained from the Dead Sea in Israel, this substance is composed of salts of Potassium, Chlorine, Sodium,
Calcium and Magnesium, as well as Sulfur and Bromine compounds. These salts are famous for their reviving,
toning and purifying qualities.
DECYL & LAURYL GLUCOSIDES
This natural sugar soap blend made from cornstarch and coconut oil is an extremely mild and effective cleanser
that rinses quickly, it is biodegradable and offers a natural alternative to harsh chemicals such as Sodium Lauryl
Sulfate.
DECYL POLYGLUCOSE
A combination of cornstarch and coconut oil, this gentle, naturally-derived cleanser foams away dirt and oil. It is
mild to skin and eyes and biodegradable.

ECHINACEA EXTRACT
This extract gently conditions dehydrated skin.
ELDER FLOWER
Sambucus nigra. The extract of the honey-scented flowers of the elder tree is a healing and gentle astringent for all
skin, especially mature or sallow skin. It is reputed to soften skin and smooth wrinkles, fade freckles and soothe
sunburn.
ESSENTIAL OILS
These volatile, rapidly evaporating oils are obtained from the leaves, stem, flower, seed or root of a plant, and
usually carry the odor characteristic of the plant. Essential oils are used in cosmetics, aromatherapy, medicine,
perfumery and flavoring. They add fragrance to natural skin care products, as well as contribute to their healthful
and beautifying qualities through their various abilities to tone, balance, relax, cleanse and invigorate. Although all
essential oils are 'fragrant', not all 'fragrances' are essential oils. True essential oils are plant-derived.
EUCALYPTUS OIL
Eucalyptus globules. Eucalyptus oil is derived from the leaves of the Eucalyptus tree native to China and Australia.
It is known for its stimulating and antiseptic properties and is valued for its penetrating, camphor-like fragrance,
similar to Vicks Vapor Rub, that opens up sinuses, fights colds, and is an expectorant and cough-suppressant. It
also has been used to relieve joint pain, muscular aches and the swelling of arthritis.
EVENING PRIMROSE OIL
The essential oil of the yellow evening primrose flower is exceptionally high in essential fatty acids, which
condition and restore moisture to the skin.
EYEBRIGHT LEAF EXTRACT
Euphrasia officinalis. This plant has been used for centuries as a topical application for eye irritations. It has a
toning effect on the surface of the eye and has excellent astringent and anti-inflammatory properties to aid
problems due to allergic reactions, airborne pollution and conjunctivitis. Eyebright is known to give brilliance and
sparkle to the eyes.

FENNEL SEED EXTRACT
This extract is used in facial steams and baths for deep cleansing. The seeds can be used to reduce inflammation,
or chewed to sweeten breath.
FIR OIL
This thin, clear oil is derived through steam distillation of the needles of the pine tree. Pine is a familiar scent to
most of us, reminding us of cool, green forests. Because of its strong antiseptic and deodorizing qualities, it is
often used in household cleaning products and in men's toiletries. It is also quite useful in the sauna and bath to
eases stress and mental exhaustion. '
FRAGRANCE
The particular aromatic blend of essential oils added to fragranced products, making it more appealing to
consumers.
FRENCH CLAY
Natural clay. Finely textured, pink, green and white clays are all members of Kaolin family. Their excellent
absorbent, tightening and toning properties make them valuable for face masks.

GERANIUM OIL
This oil with a fresh, sweet floral fragrance is obtained through steam distillation of Pelargonium odorantissimum.
This plant, which is indigenous to Algeria, Madagascar and Guinea. is one of 700 species of the Geranium family.
The oil is highly therapeutic, antiseptic and astringent and can help users relax and cope with pain. It also brings a
radiant glow to skin.
GINGER ROOT
Cultivated by Asian cultures for nearly 5000 years, this warm and spicy aromatic derived from the rhizome of the
ginger plant has traditionally been used to stimulate digestion, increase circulation and relieve muscle and joint
pain. It is also useful as an antiseptic and to treat colds and prevent motion sickness and jet lag. Applied topically,
it acts as a rubefacient, reddening the skin by stimulating blood flow to accelerate healing and relieve muscle
soreness, while its relaxant properties can help minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
GLUCOSE & GLUCOSE OXIDASE & LACTOPEROXIDASE
When combined with glucose (sugar), glucose oxidase and lactoperoxidase (natural enzymes), act as preservatives
by consuming oxygen. This method is used to make natural cosmetics inhospitable to micro-organisms.
GLYCERIN
A natural humectant and emollient, this clear, sweet, syrupy liquid is derived from vegetable oil and is usually a
by-product of soap making that draws moisture to the skin. It is non-irritating and soothing, and can be used on
even the most sensitive skin.
GOLDENSEAL EXTRACT
Goldenseal is a root that is native to North America and has been used for centuries in herbal medicine. It contains
Calcium, Iron, Managese, vitamins A, C, E, B-complex and other nutrients and minerals. Considered to be a
broad-spectrum herb, Golden Seal's numerous uses are attributed to its antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and astringent
properties.
GREEN TEA EXTRACT
Beneficial effects of green tea have been well known for over 800 years when it was first brought from China to
Japan. ""It contains ingredients that nourish skin, including vitamins E, C and B. Antibacterial and a natural
antioxidant, green tea extract is also a natural astringent that is effective in treating troubled skin and breakouts.
GRAPE EXTRACT
Vitis vinifera. Expressed from red and white grapes from France, grape extract is high in polyphenols. It is known
for its anti-oxidant behavior. In skin care formulas, grape extract protects skin lipids against peroxidation, reduces
skin irritation and scavenges free radicals. When used in hair care formulas, grape extract protects hair proteins
against oxidative stress and reduces hair styling damage.
GRAPE SEED OIL
Vitis vinifera. Expressed from grape seeds, this rich, soothing, carrier oil imparts shine in hair care formulas and is
widely used in hypoallergenic moisturizers because it does not cause allergic reactions.
GRAPEFRUIT OIL
Uplifting, cleansing and clearing, this oil is stimulating to the lymphatic system and toning to the skin.

HAWAIIAN GINGER EXTRACT
Rich in antioxidants, this extract increases circulation to soothe and soften the skin, while acting as an effective

HAZELNUT OIL
This oil derived from the hazelnut is slightly astringent and toning, and is good for all skin types.
HEMP SEED OIL
Cold expressed from sterile seeds of the Cannabis plant, this light yellow to dark green oil is unusually high in
polyunsaturated fatty acids. With the ideal ratio (3:1) of omega-6 to omega-3 essential fatty acids, hemp seed oil
most closely mirrors the skin's lipid profile, making it an excellent emollient and allowing for quick absorption.
HONEY
This sweet, fragrant, syrupy substance produced by bees soothes and adds softness to the skin, and is an excellent
natural moisturizer.
HONEY POWDER
Besides being a strong humectant, honey has a very high content of minerals, amino acids and vitamins, which aid
in keeping skin healthy. Honey contains numerous phenolic and non-phenolic antioxidants, which guard against
free radical damage and encourage healthy cell turnover in the skin.
HOPS EXTRACT
This extract is an antioxidant that calms and sedates the skin.
HORSETAIL EXTRACT
This extract provides natural silica to the skin and reminaralizes it. The flavonoids and saponins it contains have
cell rejuvenation and regenerating properties. The extract has a stabilizing effect on connective tissue, thereby
increasing firmness and elasticity of the skin.
HYBRID SUNFLOWER OIL
Sunflowers were cultivated by the American Indians over 3,000 years ago. Their pressed oil contains vitamin E
and other substances that are beneficial to the skin.
HYSSOP OIL
Derived from the flowers and leaves of this evergreen shrub, hyssop oil acts as a natural decongestant, expectorant

JUNIPER OIL

LANOLIN
Obtained from the wax found on sheep wool after it is sheared, this substance is then refined and purified to
cosmetic specifications. ''Rich in cholesterol, lanolin is well suited for the treatment of brittle hair and fingernails
and dry and raw elbows, knees and feet. It is an excellent emollient, skin lubricant and protectant especially helpful
in winter when extremes of temperature and wind can damage skin. Lanolin is also useful in natural cosmetic
formulations as it adds thickness and 'body' to creams and salves without the use of chemical thickeners.
LAVANDIN OIL
A hybrid of true lavender and spike lavender, this oil embodies actions similar to those of true lavender, but is
more penetrating and rubefacient with a sharper scent. It is good for circulatory or muscular conditions.
LAVENDER OIL
Lavendula dentata. This fragrant oil is the result of steam distillation of the pale purple flowers of certain species
of lavender plants that are found mostly in France. Its fresh, clean scent has made it a worldwide, body pampering
favorite. French lavender is an excellent all-purpose skin care oil thought to have antiseptic, antibacterial and
antiviral properties, as well as cytophylactic properties that promote healing and help prevent scarring.
LECITHIN
A natural emulsifier found in soybeans that has excellent emollient benefits and is a source of choline and vitamin
B.
LEMON BIOFLAVONOIDS
Derived from the rind of the lemon, these bioflavonoids contain antioxidants to protect skin from free radical
damage caused by environmental factors such as exposure to sun and pollution.
LEMON FRUIT WATER
All natural lemon extract contains at least eleven water-soluble bioactives, including trace elements and mineral
salts. The water helps remineralize and condition scalp and hair.
LEMON OIL

LEMON VERBENA LEAF
Aloysia triphylls. These leaves have a clean, sharp, lemony fragrance and are antiseptic and stimulating. As an
infusion, the leaves can be used to reduce puffiness around eyes.
LEMONGRASS OIL
Cymbopogon flexuosus. This volatile oil is distilled from the leaves of lemongrass. Native to India, lemongrass is
a fast-growing perennial that is grown primarily in the West Indies, Africa and tropical Asia. Lemongrass is known
for its antiseptic properties and is used in aromatherapy as a mood elevator. The yellowish or reddish-brown liquid
has a strong lemony, herbal odor of verbena.
LETTUCE EXTRACT

LIME OIL
Astringent, antiseptic and non-irritating, this oil is useful in the treatment of acne.
LINDEN EXTRACT
Linden trees grow in the temperate climates of Europe, Asia and North America. Commonly known as lime, the

MACADAMIA NUT OIL
This rich, fatty oil obtained from the Macadamia nut is a nourishing yet gentle oil that is very effective for

MAGNESIUM SULFATE
Epsom salts. This small, white crystal resembling salt is used in soaks and baths to 'draw' toxic substances from the
body through the skin. It provides effective relief for sore, tired muscles.
MANDARIN PETITGRAIN OIL
Petitgrain bigarde. The bitter orange tree that provides the petitgrain essential oil is also the source of bitter orange

MANGO BUTTER

NEROLI OIL
Citrus aurantium. Neroli essential oil is extracted from the flowers of both the sweet and bitter orange trees.
Typically, however, it is from the bitter orange tree. The oil is thought to increase circulation and stimulate new
cell growth. It can help prevent scarring and stretch marks, as well as calm, soothe and normalize the skin. It has a
pleasant and relaxing citrus aroma.
NETTLE LEAF EXTRACT
Urtica dioica. Obtained from the stinging weed, this extract is rich in minerals and plant hormone and is known for
its tonic, astringent and revitalizing properties. The extract stimulates hair growth and adds shine and softness to
hair.
NONFAT MILK POWDER
Defatted cow's milk. Milk has been used for centuries as a natural, soothing skin cleanser and softener.

PANTHENOL
Provitamin B5. A biologically active substance that metabolizes vitamin B5, Panthenol is known for its
revitalizing and conditioning properties when used on hair and skin. It has humectant-like properties that promote

PATCHOULI OIL
Pogostemon cablin. This oil is stimulating when used in small quantities, sedating when used in larger doses. It is
antiseptic and is said to have aphrodisiac qualities. The oil is best used for bath or massage, and its scent makes a

PARSLEY LEAF EXTRACT
Petroselinum sativum. Parsley is a source of remarkable nutrition. Rich in vitamin C, provitamin V and
chlorophyll, parsley is thought to have antimicrobial, antiseptic and astringent properties that soothe the skin.
Parsley essential oil has a sweet, warm spicy scent.
PEACH STONE
This natural mechanical exfoliant is made from the pit of the peach fruit.
PEPPERMINT OIL
Mentha piperita. This refreshing, reviving, fragrant oil or extract is derived from the Mediterranean peppermint
plant. Peppermint herb is valued for its cooling, pain relieving and antiseptic effect in bath and facial treatments.
When prepared in a carrier lotion, it is useful for minor skin irritation and inflammation. Peppermint oil contains
menthol, known for its ability to open breathing passages and settle upset stomachs. Peppermint oil is used

PEPPERMINT LEAF EXTRACT
Mentha piperita. Peppermint leaf has been used for thousands of years as a cleansing and refreshing herb. Derived
from the Latin word "mente", meaning "thought", mints are believed to stimulate the brain and are a natural
additive for shampoos and other products used during morning skin and hair care regimens.
PETITGRAIN OIL
Produced from the leaves and twigs of Bitter Orange trees, its name stems from the fact that at one time, the oil
was extracted from small under ripe oranges about the size of cherries (little grains). Antiseptic, deodorizing and
stimulating with a fresh-floral citrus scent, petitgrain helps balance sebum production, improving acne and

An emulsifying compound produced by the reaction of stearic acid and sorbitol, a naturally occurring sweetener,

Pomegranate fruit extract, from the tree Punica granatum, contains several polyphenols and anthocyanidins

ROSE WATER
Produced by the distillation of the fresh flowers as well as the distillation of the essential oil of roses, rose water is
mildly astringent and soothing to dry skin.
ROSEMARY OIL
Rosmarinus officinalis. Rosemary is an aromatic shrub with scaly bark and leathery, needle-like leaves yielding a
pungent pine-like aroma with a woody, camphor note. Its oil has been used for centuries as a physical and mental
stimulant and an astringent healer treating muscle soreness. It stimulates cell renewal and, in beauty products, is
used to clear acne and blemishes, improve circulation and can reduce the appearance of broken capillaries and
varicose veins. Rosemary has a long history as an ingredient in hair care, as it normalizes excessive oil secretions
and improves most scalp problems, notably dandruff, as well as conditioning the scalp and stimulating hair growth.
ROYAL JELLY
Very nourishing, royal jelly is made of nectar, pollen, flower parts, vitamins, minerals, bee hormones and other
natural ingredients. It is a very precious, mysterious substance that honeybees produce and feed to only select
young bees, which in turn become mature and fertile queen bees. The queen bee lives 40 times longer than her
worker bees.

Salvia officinalis. A natural antioxidant, the leaves of the small evergreen perennial are used for their tonic,
astringent and soothing properties. Sage oils, obtained by steam distillation of the plant's leaves, are used as a
fragrant component in lotions. Arabs believe sage prevents dying, while the Chinese used to brew sage leaves
instead of tea to obtain a soothing, relaxing beverage.
SANDALWOOD OIL
Santalum album. This rich, luxurious, fragrant oil is one of the oldest known perfume materials, with at least 4,000
years of uninterrupted use. Sandalwood helps reduce tension and anxiety and is moisturizing to dry skin and hair.
It is believed to be an antidepressant, expectorant and aphrodisiac.
SD ALCOHOL
Distilled from corn, this alcohol is a natural, evaporating cleanser. It is Specially Denatured (SD) according to U.S.
Codes of Federal Regulations. Denaturing makes the alcohol undrinkable.
SEA SALT
This concentrated mineral salt from the sea softens skin and acts as a detoxifying cleanser that draws impurities
out of the body through the skin.
SESAME SEED OIL
The edible seeds of the East Indian sesame plant yield a pale yellow oil, which is an excellent skin softener. It aids
in the treatment of psoriasis and eczema, and is excellent for all skin types.
SHEA BUTTER
This natural fat obtained from the fruit of the karite tree is a valuable, nourishing addition to moisturizers for the
reduction of wrinkles and to improve the elasticity of the skin and protect it against environmental aging. Shea
butter is known to increase local capillary circulation, which in turn increases tissue re-oxygenation.
SILICA
The most common constituent of sand, generally fine particles of quartz, silica is used to thicken and stabilize
formulas.
SLIPPERY ELM BARK
Obtained from the inner bark of Ulmus fulv, the North American Elm tree, this substance is used for its soothing
and softening properties. It is effective in damp, moist areas such as a baby's bottom to soothe, coat and calm the
skin.
SODIUM BICARBONATE
Baking soda. This natural, alkaline salt crystal is a very effective cleansing agent, yet is mild to the hair and skin. It
is also extremely absorbent of odors.
SODIUM BORATE
Natural borax. This hard, odorless salt powder is combined with beeswax to form stable emulsions in creams and
lotions. It is also used as a pH adjuster and a gentle antiseptic.
SODIUM CITRATE
This Alpha Hydroxy Acid salt naturally adjusts pH.
SODIUM CHLORIDE
This concentrated mineral salt from the sea softens skin and acts as a detoxifying cleanser that draws impurities

SOY AMINO ACID
Amino acids are the building block of proteins. This one, derived from soybeans, helps repair and strengthen the
hair by coating individual hair shafts, providing strength, conditioning and improving volume.
SOY PROTEIN
Derived from defatted soy flakes, soy protein offers a rich penetrating blend of protein, B vitamins and essential
minerals that nourish and moisturize the skin and hair.
SOYBEAN OIL
Extracted from soybeans, this oil is high in linoleic and oleic essential fatty acids and vitamin E. Soybean oil
exhibits excellent emolliency, helps with cell renewal and improves skin's appearance and health.
SPEARMINT OIL
This natural mint flavor imparts taste and antimicrobial properties to oral care products.
STEARIC ACID (Vegetable Fat)
When a vegetable oil molecule is split in half, glycerin and fatty acids are the result. These fatty acids are reacted
with borax (a natural salt) to produce a natural emulsifier. Emulsifiers enable oils to be dispersed throughout a
water base to form a cream or lotion that does not separate.
STONEROOT EXTRACT
This member of the mint family soothes skin and provides anti-itch properties. In combination with ricegrass and
wheatgrass, it has proven to protect against UV irradiation of the skin, increase skin hydration, increase skin
firmness and reduce skin redness.
SUCROSE
Sugar. This crystalline disaccharide is obtained from sugar cane, sugar beet and sorghum and forms the greater
part of maple sugar.
SUCROSE COCOATE
A combination of sugar and coconut oil, this nearly natural cleanser gently foams away dirt and oil. A GRAS
(Generally Recognized As Safe by the U.S. Government) compound, it is one of the safest cleansers available.
SUCROSE ESTER
This sugar-based emulsifier prepared from natural and renewable resources has high biocompatibility and
excellent biodegradability.
SUCROSE LAURATE
This sugar ester made from a combination of sugar and coconut oil acts as an emulsifier.
SUCROSE STEARATE & DISTEARATE
This natural sugar emulsifier/moisturizer is used to emulsify and stabilize formulas. The sugar is processed with
vegetable oil to strengthen the emulsifying characteristics of the substance.
SUGAR CANE EXTRACT
The juicy pulp of the sugar cane plant, this substance works as a natural Alpha Hydroxy Acid.
SUGAR MAPLE EXTRACT
Derived from the Sugar Maple tree, this extract works as a natural Alpha Hydroxy Acid.
SUNFLOWER OIL
Helianthus annuus. This oil is an excellent nutritious food for the body and skin. Sunflower oil is especially useful
for oily skin. The flower's petals are used as an ingredient in herbal hair rinses, especially for blond or lightcolored hair.
SWEET ALMOND OIL
Prunus amygdalus. Cold pressed from the dried kernels of the almond tree, this medium-weight oil is rich in olein

SWEET ORANGE OIL
Citrus aurantium dulcis. This oil is obtained by expressing the peel of the fruit from the orange tree, which has a
sweet pulp with no bitter membrane. About 800 oranges yield one pound of orange oil. Valued for its zesty and
refreshing, sweet yet tart aroma, orange oil reduces puffiness and discourages dryness and wrinkles. Both the oil
and the peel are used to stimulate circulation, clear blemishes and increase perspiration, thus assisting the release
of toxins from dull or blemished skin. The peel is used as a natural exfoliator.

TANGERINE OIL
Similar to the oil of the Chinese Mandarin orange, this oil is cold expressed from the outer peel of the tangerine
fruit. It has a sweet, orange-like scent and antiseptic, digestive and stimulant properties. Traditionally used for its
digestive qualities, today it is more commonly used to relieve stress, nervous tension and insomnia. Topical uses
include treatment for acne, oily skin, scar healing and toner.
TAPIOCA
When included in Kaolin clay formulas, this absorbent yet moisturizing powder helps calm the skin and reduce
redness, leaving it soft and hydrated. It also increases cushion in skin care formulas and provides a smoother
consistency than cornstarch.
TARRAGON OIL
This oil is commonly used as a scent. As an aromatherapy agent, it is stabilizing calming and normalizing.
TEA TREE OIL
Melaleuca alternifolia. The aboriginal people of Australia have long used Tea tree oil as an antiseptic. The oil is
best known for its antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties. It can help to fight all three categories of
infectious organisms (bacteria, fungi and viruses). For skin and hair, Tea tree has been used to combat acne, oily
skin, head lice and dandruff. The oil has a fresh, characteristic mint and spice back-notes aroma.
THYME OIL
This oil is commonly used as a scent. As an aromatherapy agent, red thyme oil is cleansing and purifying, while
white thyme oil is stabilizing, energizing and strengthening.
TITANIUM DIOXIDE
Occurring naturally as the mineral rutile, this substance is used chiefly as a white pigment and as an opacifier. It
reflects light, so (when identified as such) can be considered a natural sun block.
TOCOPHEROL (D-Alpha)
