Obituary: Winifred Babbie Favero
Dateline: Swanton, Vermont
Winifred Babbie Favero, age 100 years, died early Wednesday
morning December 18, 2013, in the Northwestern Medical Center
surrounded by her loving family.
Winifred was born October 23, 1913, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada,
the daughter of the late Frederick and Lena (St. Johns) Babbie. She
attended the former St. Anne's Academy in Swanton, Vermont. On
April 26, 1933, she married Romeo Favero in Swanton. Winifred was
the consummate wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was
her large extended family. She shared Romeo's passion for the great
outdoors, fishing and discovering the many by-ways of Lake
Champlain and the Missisquoi River. They were avid boaters and
campers. They spent many hours enjoying the wonders of Lake
Champlain even venturing up the Richelieu River in a small 20 foot
cabin cruiser. Winifred was an active and devoted member of The
Church of the Nativity, Ladies of St. Anne and Altar Society for many
years. Her complete devotion to Saint Anne was evidenced by her
annual pilgrimages to St. Anne de Beaupre in Quebec City and her love of attending Mass at St. Anne's
Shrine in Isle La Motte throughout the summer months. Winnie and Romeo also served as foster parents
during the 1930's for many children whose parents were unable to care for them.
