Job title and academic level of module: PGWT – Markers for first year Phonetics & Phonology module (autumn term 2015) Department and module leader: Language and Linguistic Science, Dr. Sam Hellmuth Duration and end date of the job: 6 hours in total, over two half days or one full day, between 7-18th December 2015, at a mutually convenient time. Brief description of the main duties: The work is casual work, and as such will be paid at the rate for marking. You will be paid for 1 hour of training followed by about 5 hours of marking for a total of 6 hours. It is estimated that you will mark 30 scripts. It is expected that each script will take 10 minutes after training. The purpose of the training is to agree and finalise the marking scheme, to identify some samples of good, average and poor scripts for comparison, and agree a way of giving individual students useful feedback which is consistent across markers. Qualifications, skills, experience required: Candidates must have at least an MA or MSc in Linguistics or a related area, with specific expertise/background in phonetics and phonology. Candidates must have taken the “Introduction to Learning and Teaching” training course provided by RTD prior to applying for the role. Candidates must be available to partake in the initial training session. Candidates must have an appropriate level of written English.
