Inquiry Topic
For my inquiry project I plan to look at the controversial topic of should or shouldn’t religion play such a major role in government. What I already know about religion’s role in government is that it is a major part of how many of our laws are based upon. I also know that our country, like many others, was founded upon high religious beliefs and that religion is still a major part of our government. Other things I know are that we still have the statement “In God
We Trust” on our currency, which of course has religious meaning behind it. Another fact is that typically in most public schools in the US we say the pledge of allegiance which in one line states “One Nation under God”. I think this is a good topic for my paper because it is not only very controversial, but also very informative and historically relevant to how our country was created.
I believe that I will be able to find a large amount of information supporting, but also against this topic. I’m personally interested in this topic, because typically during presidential election and other political times there is a lot of focus on religion and things about people’s personal beliefs instead of important topics and I just want to find out why that is. I also want to research this topic because I want to hear different people’s views on this topic and see how many people really are that bothered by the thought of having an Atheist or non-Christian president or elected government official.
My assumption about this project that I will easily find information and people that support that idea of having religion in government; however it will be a lot harder to find people who do not believe they should be connected. I have this assumption because the US is a very religious country with very religious people who are only comfortable having there government using their personal or similar religious beliefs. I have already consulted some of my peers about

Inquiry Topic this topic and heard their opinions about it. I later plan to use internet research as well as paper resources to find more information about my topic. I also plan to take a small survey in my dorm if that is possible, to receive some initial information for my topic. I potentially may not be able to find enough information against my topic, but may have an overabundance of information supporting my topic.
The outcome that I would like to see from this project is that people would look less about people’s religious beliefs when they are running for office and more about what their policies and political ideas are.
