Residency Directors Fellowship Program: Overview
The RDFP is a year-long fellowship certificate program. It is designed to
provide residency directors and medical education coordinators/administrators in
Ohio with the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and skills so they can be
effective and successful leaders of their programs and trainees.
The RDFP is unique and different from national specialty-specific faculty
development programs that residency directors attend because of a) its
administration-focused blended curriculum and b) it is a year-long program, not a
one-day program. The RDFP is the answer to the challenge of residency
directors’ succession planning. Upon completion of the RDFP, fellows will serve
as mentors for new residency directors.
The RDFP is sponsored by the Ohio University-Heritage College of
Osteopathic Medicine/Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (OUHCOM/CORE).
A new feature of RDFP this year is the participation of medical education
coordinators/administrators. They are an important part of the team in residency
training and thus will benefit from the program.
Program Participants and Requirements
We invite osteopathic residency directors and medical education
coordinators/administrators in Ohio who are affiliated with CORE hospitals. We
request a refundable deposit of $1,000 from participants – the deposit will be
refunded after satisfactorily completing the program for the academic year in
which they are enrolled. If a participant misses one live or videoconference
session, he/she is allowed to make up the particular session the following year in
order to receive the certificate of completion. The $1000 will be refunded upon
program completion. Failure to complete the program means lost
funds/resources for the CORE.
Participants must commit to attendance and participation at all sessions:
[July (mail-in), August (2-day live session), November (1-day live session), and
June (2-day live session), and two 2-hour videoconference sessions]. All
applicants must complete the Application for Admission form including a
Statement of Purpose.

Method for Administering and Evaluating the Proposed Program
The RDFP will be administered by one of the Assistant Directors of CORE
Faculty Development with the help of program faculty and delivered with a variety
of teaching strategies which are designed to foster regular interactions via
discussion/lecture and small group activities and to increase involvement of
participants with regular 1-1 consultation. Formative (regular feedback during
synchronous learning and progress reports) and summative (program feedback)
evaluation is incorporated in the program.
