Students Exploring STEM Careers - Engineering And Manufacturing
Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) based
jobs and industries are critical to the economic future of Dunedin
and New Zealand. Students from Dunedin and surrounding district
secondary schools will visit local engineering and manufacturing
companies to learn about the range of career opportunities related
to these industries and the skills and qualities needed by
employers.Students will be invited to participate through their
schools.

Negotiating Your Job Offer
St David’s Seminar Room 2 (limited to 60 people),
University of Otago
Professor Alan Geare will talk about successful strategies for
negotiating your first job offer. Professor Geare Alan teaches papers
in employment/industrial relations. His research interests are in
employment/industrial relations, industrial law and aspects of
human resource management, and has authored a dozen books and
over fifty articles in these areas. He has published in such journals as
Academy of Management Review, International Labour Review,
International Journal of Human Resource Management and
Personnel Review. He has worked as a consultant to many
organisations and unions and was an adjudicator and mediator
member of the Employment Tribunal. All students welcome.

Making Art Work: Seminar Series
Dunningham Suite, Dunedin City Library
This seminar will look at a model for creative careers development,
taking the process to design and produce work into a model for
employment and self-employment. Each session includes question
and answer time. Manager of Artist Development Agency, Antony
Deaker, has been working with artists, designers, musicians etc. in
Dunedin since 2001 to support their development of sustainable
employment and self-employment. He has mentored and supported
hundreds of creative people who have gone on to launch and
sustain successful businesses, self-employment and employment.

Open Doors For Others – Become A CV Champion
Brockville Community Church
A good CV is the difference between getting an interview or not.
Crafting a winning CV can be challenging for many people. If you
would like to be able to help others (friends, family or community
members) present themselves successfully in their CV – this
workshop is for you. Spend two days becoming familiar with what
employers look for in CVs, learning how to use professional CV
templates and practicing writing about skills and achievements. Find
out about other ways people can promote themselves to employers,
including through social media sites like Linked In. This workshop is a
joint initiative of the Brockville Community Development Project
and Careers New Zealand.
