A final reception and bone-making event will be held this Saturday, April 6, from 1-4:30 pm. The bones will be mailed to Washington DC to be put on display. Service Learning Conference This Sunday, ESSO is hosting a Service Learning Conference, to have an inspirational and educational conversation with other New England schools’ community service leaders. Schools attending the conference include Andover, St. Paul’s, Tilton, Groton, Berwick, Pomfret, Loomis Chaffee, Noble and Greenough and New Hampton. Special thanks to Priya Boddu and the Service Learning Team for their hard work. Robbins Memorial Weekend Our annual event, Robbins Memorial Weekend, will be held April 7th – April 9th. Each year, we bring in a motivational speaker to address a global issue and connect Exeter to the world community, strengthening the discussion through panels and forums. This year’s topic is Youth Activism, and our keynote speaker is Parnian Nazary ’06. Join the discussion! Sunday, April 7th: Margaret Litvin, a BU professor will talk about “Art in Protest: The Arab Spring” and what it means to be an style. In this club poetry, short stories, play-writes, song writing, and more will transpire. The motto is the more creative the better! Assist children in honing their artistic outlooks, writing style, and encourage them towards a lifetime of creative writing pursuits. Creative Writing meets every Sunday from 3-4 pm. Documentary Films: Spark a Voice in Children In today’s society Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, and a myriad of other television stations inundate children with practically worthless viewing experiences. Documentary Film Club is to the rescue! Watch documentaries with children. Inspire them to have discussions on what they’ve watched. Film topics include nutrition, nature, famous artists, history, and more. This is an incredibly fun club where LOTS of learning will occur! Documentary Films meets every Sunday from 2-3 pm. Come work with middle school mentors every Wednesday from 2:504:30 pm where you can help 6th-8th graders with their homework and then, once finished, play creative games or go outside. Later this Month… Relay for Life This year's Relay for Life is dedicated to Mr. Parris, our beloved math teacher, who passed away on October 23rd. This event on April 27 not only benefits the American Cancer Society, but also gives us an opportunity to come together as a community to honor those who have died of cancer, those who have survived, and those who are still fighting. Decorate luminaria bags in honor of those who have fought the battle against cancer. The bags cost $5 and will be sold in Agora during Monday Meetings. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society! The names of those honored will be read during the Luminaria ceremony in Love Gym. If you can’t make Monday meetings, e-mail Audrey Zheng (azheng@exeter.edu). Would you like to help clean up the environment? Well come join us on our trip to the beach this Sunday, April 7rd from 1 – 3 pm to pick up the garbage left by careless beach-goers or washed up onto shore from the polluted seas. A Final Thank-You Support the Troops just had our annual Letters to the Troops event in Agora right before we went on Spring Break. Before we are allowed to submit the letters, the co-heads had to read over each one to ensure that the writing is appropriate, respectful, all that jazz. The event will occur Saturday, May 4th from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM at Cooperative Middle School in Stratham. UU Church Facepainting A celebration of women and children, come paint faces at the UU Church on May 5th. Other activities include henna, maypole dancing, and crafts. Main St. School Bookroom The Main Street Bookroom would like our help on May 15th. Help organize the bookroom and carts for elementary schoolchildren. Get Fit in May Get Fit in May is a 5k race at Lincoln Street on May 18th Volunteer at the Lincoln Street School's 5k on May 18th! Kites Against Cancer Kites Against Cancer is an event to help support the Beyond the Rainbow Fund at Exeter Hospital, which provides financial assistance to local oncology patients in needs. It will be held Sunday, May 19th at Hampton Beach from 12:00 to 3:00. Connor's Climb: A 5K faculty, and staff had written could not have been more heart-wrenching. Once I pushed past the red and blue uneven marker strokes on the front cover, a world of heartfelt expressions of gratitude poured out of the stationary paper. From a simple “God Bless America” to a touching anecdote about a family member who has served, these letters, at least in my time here, have been the greatest bunch yet, and I can’t wait to ship them overseas. Thank you to everyone who took time out of their own day to thank those who aren’t thanked enough. Run and Walk for Life Connor's Climb is a 5K held to honor those who have been lost to suicide and raise awareness. Connor’s Climb is a first-time event, created to honor Connor Ball, a former freshman at Exeter High, who committed suicide in 2011. It will be held on Saturday May 25th at 9 am at Exeter High School. -Savannah Gardner ‘14 Community Action Day April 17 Questions: The sign up process for our morning of service is on Friday this week.
