Dr Semple, Finney & Datta February Newsletter 2016 Changes to the team We are sorry to say farewell to both Dr Eckersall and Dr Thorman this month. Dr Eckersall was proving locum cover for Dr McGill, who returns in the summer and was offered a Partnership in a practice and leaves with our best wishes. Vietnamese Visit In November, we hosted a delegation of Vietnamese Delegates, including a Senior Health Minister who wanted to find out more about General Practice and Primary Care in Scotland. This was part of the Vietnamese Government’s studies towards health reform. This proved to be a very successful visit from both ourselves and our Vietnamese counterparts and we wish them well in their future projects. Dr Thorman, our Registrar, has now gone on maternity leave and we hope to see her return next year and complete her final part of her GP training. Both Doctors have been fantastic members of the practice team and we wish them both well in the future. I’m sure many of you will have seen the news about the severe shortage of GP’s in the UK and unfortunately, we are no different in Glasgow. This has caused difficulty in getting in more permanent locum cover. We have contacted two very experienced GP’s to help us during this period and we are delighted to announce the short term appointments of Dr Rodger and Dr Fraser who will be helping until we have a more permanent arrangement. I fully appreciate that many of you prefer to see a particular GP but I would be grateful for your patience and understanding during this period. Farewell Jean We also said a sad farewell to our receptionist Jean this month, who has retired. Jean has been working in the Medical Centre since 1998 and was a much loved member of the team and leaves with our best wishes. We would like to welcome Frances to the team, who some of you may know already as she was initially bank staff. Frances has a wealth of experience and we look forward to working with her. Ordering Repeat Prescriptions Did you know that you can email the practice with your repeat prescription requests? Email us on GG-UHB.GP52414prescriptions@nhs.net Please note that repeat prescriptions can be processed quicker than acute prescriptions, so keep this in mind if you request both. We have a 48 hour turnaround for Acute Prescriptions due to the length of time taken to issue these and the high volume of requests we receive. Extended Hours We have increased our Extended Hours. This means appointments will be available on Monday and Tuesday evenings, as well as Friday mornings. Monday: Tuesday: Friday: 5:30pm – 6:30pm 5:30pm – 6:30pm 8:00am – 8:30am Phoning for Test Results Test results are available between 2pm and 3pm Monday – Friday. When test results come back, they are analysed by the GP who then leave a comment for the reception staff to pass on. I.e. Satisfactory result; please inform patient. Sometimes the GP may ask for another test to be done (there are a number of reasons for this) and the receptionist will pass this on. We would ask you to keep in mind that the administration team are passing on a message and cannot answer detailed questions regarding your results. Should you wish to discuss your results, please ask for a telephone consultation with either the GP or the Practice Nurse.
