Here are a few packages scripts, or parts of scripts, that are good examples.

ON CAM
Flooding in the aftermath of a
typhoon has devastated the northern
regions of the Philippines.
The death toll is rising and if that
wasn’t bad enough, there is more bad
weather on the way.
John Doe has the story.
(Sound of people cheering)
VO/SOT
Rescue efforts are underway in the
Philippines.
Clear skies in the town of Nueva
Ecija allowed police to conduct rescue
operations from helicopters.
VO/SOT
Elsewhere in town, three people
were rescued when their truck was
swept under a bridge.
VO/SOT
But in most parts of the northern
region of the country, continuing bad
weather is preventing helicopters from
getting to where they are needed.
SOT:
There were five that were supposed
to have been sent to Infanta.
However, because of the
deteriorating weather, we could not
penetrate and they all had to go back
(this is just the first part of a longer
package)
In this example, the writer has also started on dramatic video and used several

ON CAM
At least 327 people in the northern towns of The
Philippines have died in the floods and mudslides
caused by Typhoon Winnie. Matt Walsh has more
on the disaster.

Nueva Ecija is one of the towns affected by the
floods. Luckily for it, the weather is good enough
to allow helicopters to fly in and rescue people
stranded on rooftops.

ending with cheers of the people when one person
is rescued.)

impact.

A typhoon has struck the Philippines causing
devastating floods across the north of the country.
At least 327 people have been killed and more
are still missing. Filipinos are now struggling with
the flood aftermath. Matt Walsh has more
The typhoon has caused mayhem across the
country.
Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines, has
been hit badly.
This is the scale of destruction.
Floodwater has subsided, revealing the
damages.
Houses have been swept away.
Only a thick layer of mud is left.
Survivors cling what is left.
They wait on rooftops for rescuers.
But the bad weather has hampered the rescuers’
efforts.
Some rescue helicopters have become trapped
in the floodwater.
VO
Victim picked up from rooftop
with others applauding
But when one survivor makes it to the
helicopter, there is a sense of relief.
And here’s an example of a full package that does nearly everything right. Good
opening pictures, good use of natural sound, and it doesn’t get bogged down in
trying to explain the differing deaths tolls.

Bad weather continues to plague attempts by
Philippine officials to reach towns affected by
the typhoon that hit Quezon province in the
north.
Floods and landslides have devastated towns in
Quezon. The province is now bracing itself
against another powerful typhoon set to hit
later this week.
Matt Walsh has more on the disaster.

Help has been slow to arrive for most people
and the death toll is still steadily rising, days
after the typhoon hit land.
The social welfare department says that floods
and landslides have killed at least 306 people in
Quezon province alone.
Government officials say at least 21 have been
killed in other areas.
The official death toll, however, has been
smaller that what media outlets have been
reporting.
The government has been careful to confirm
each death before adding it to the official
record.
=(SOT)=
“There are a lot of persons missing, so we
expect the figure to rise.”
Numbers of the dead and the missing may rise
even further, as the Philippines braces itself for
another typhoon set to hit land by the end of
the week.
