Irvine CA, November 17, 2014:
Thompson Aerospace 1Netv2 system offers straightforward and secure access to all aircraft data in compliance with DO326, utilizing FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certification for commercial aircraft.
Thompson Aerospace of Irvine California, together with BE Aerospace – Macrolink Division, announces the launch of the
1Netv2, a second generation data management platform. The 1Netv2 is the newest innovation by Thompson
Aerospace, building on the patented 1Net technology that has offloaded over 500 million records from and 100 million
records to commercial aircraft. This data management platform was developed to meet the security requirements of
DO-326 and FIPS 140-2 level 3 . The platform is retrofit solution for commercial aircraft thru the addition of a CSUv2
and is being offered to OEM equipment manufacturers as a white label LRU, or component to be added to new OEM
LRUs.
The 1Netv2 patented technology for securely linking and moving aircraft data between aircraft systems and cloud based
networks is the result of 3 years of in-service testing on commercial aircraft. With a single unit, Thompson Aerospace
now has the capability to manage category C and higher data for: a) passenger services such as IFE, Wi-Fi, and financial
transactions; b) comprehensive Aircraft Health Monitoring functions; c) cabin security cameras and cockpit surveillance,
and d) Electronic Flight Bag; during every phase of flight.
The 1Netv2 core platform is “Always Connected” with an embedded Iridium transceiver in the CSUv2. This unit is a
technology refresh of the existing CSU v1 with added functions like GNSS, (2) LTE radios and additional security
functions. While unit is the same form factor as the existing CSU product (2 MCU), it has been enhanced with (3)
processors and (2) hardware security engines to meet FIPS level of security.
The platform has an enhanced Amazon Web Services infrastructure that provides worldwide access to all data using a
secure, patented means to validate, encrypt and retrieve data by a method that meets FIPS 140-2 level 3 requirements.
“As cloud based data management expands, businesses have found significant savings of their IT cost and gained better
visibility of trends within their business. As individuals, we rely more and more on cloud based data for our Personal
Electronic Devices and home networks. Cloud based systems allow massive amounts of data to be processed, forwarded
and stored. Aircraft data integrity is mandatory and with our patented technology, our CSUv2 enables the highest level of
data security ever offered for commercial aircraft” stated Mark Thompson, President and CEO.
Mark Thompson added, “Airlines are always striving to increase passenger satisfaction, reduce maintenance cost and
improve visibility of all aspects of the aircraft operation. Aircraft have tremendous amounts of data which now can be
easily moved to and from the platform. This allows all departments within the airline such as operations, maintenance,
marketing and passenger services to be able to collect and utilize this data in real time. We are confident that an IT
connected aircraft will be 20 percent less expensive to maintain than existing aircraft”.
Connectivity Server Unit version 2
The 1NETv2 core unit is a single 2MCU Connectivity Server Unit (CSUv2) manufactured by B/E Aerospace – Macrolink
Division. The unit replaces the AID, QAR, WGL, FDAMS, EFB docking station while integrating an Iridium transceiver.
The unit includes two QUAD Core processors with 2 Gigabytes of DDR3 memory and 1,000 Gigabytes of flash storage for
each processor. The unit has two internal security engines; one to manage the connection to the cloud, and one to
manage the connection to users and aircraft. A single dedicated processor manages the communication to the cloud and
has control over the (2) cellular modules as well as the Iridium module. The (4) Gigabit ports are PoE ports with up to 48
watts for external devices such as Wireless Access Points, EFBs, or additional I/O as required to support the aircraft. The
standard I/O includes ARINC 717, ARINC 429, ARINC 825, ARINC 485 and a number of discretes.
About Thompson Aerospace
Thompson Aerospace products and services have been installed on A320 series aircraft starting in June of 2011. The
innovative solutions have moved over 500M records from the aircraft to the cloud and 100M records from the cloud to
the aircraft. The Thompson Aerospace 1Netv2 platform provides data that is more secure, valid and accessible than
previously possible for existing aircraft. For more information, visit www.thompsonaerospace.com .
