HATEFUL EIGHT PACKS IT UP
ANOTHER SKIER RESCUED OUT OF BEAR CREEK
ACTOR INVOLVED IN CRASH NEAR DELORES
AND, A MOUNTAIN WEATHER FORECAST
If you didn’t get the chance to have a beer with Quentin Tarantino or chat with
Samuel L Jackson on the street, well, you missed your opportunity. Filming
for “The Hateful Eight” finished Friday, March 6th. There was a wrap party on
Saturday and cast members producers and Tarantino left after that. There’s
still a small core group in town cleaning up and taking care of other details.
One such person is Location Manager for Cinemanic Productions, John Minor.
He took a couple minutes Friday to stop by K-O-T-O for an interview.
INSERT
That was John Minor, Location Manager for Cinemanic Productions. As for
when the Hateful Eight will be released or if there will be a local screening, at
the Nugget or the Palm, Minor couldn’t say. There could, however, be a couple
of items used during filming showing up on sweet deals in the near future.
Equipment such as a snow blower and a sled, will not make the trip back to LA
BRIEFS
A vacationing skier who became lost while inadvertently skiing in Bear Creek in
was escorted to safety, uninjured, Friday afternoon by other backcountry skiers.
According to a release from the SMCSO, Deputies had a Helitrax helicopter on
standby and Search and Rescue personnel in position to activate a rescue mission
if it became necessary.
The skier, 51 year-old Michael Ehrenberg of Florida, told Sheriff Deputies he
thought he was still within bounds of the ski resort after he hiked the Gold Hill
Ridge, went by ropes, heavy signage and through the US Forest Service gate into
the Bear Creek backcountry. He told Sheriff Deputies he saw multiple signs,
including US Forest Service warning signs, but did not stop and read them.
Ehrenberg said he had no backcountry experience and no backcountry beacon,
probe or shovel when he dropped into Bear Creek.
After descending into the Delta Bowl, and hitting cliffs, Ehrenberg got concerned
and tried to hike back to safety. When he realized he could not , he called
Telluride Ski Patrol for help who then contacted the sheriff’s office, saying they
could not locate the party when checking from ski area boundaries. Ehrenberg’s
cell phone battery died shortly after.
At the same time, local backcountry skiers spotted Ehrenberg and offered to help.
One 24-year-old man, Davis Shamburger, called dispatchers to allow them to ping
his cell phone to acquire GPS coordinates in the event a rescue became
necessary. Over the next 20 minutes, he and another skier safely escorted
Ehrenberg down to the base of Bear Creek, where they were met by Sheriff
Deputies. All parties were safely accounted for by about 2:30 p.m.
San Miguel County Sheriff Bill Masters says this is an important reminder as to
the dangers of skiing in the backcountry.
Quote: “It doesn’t always take an avalanche to pose significant danger to people
who venture into the backcountry. It can be a mine-field of threats.”
“Revenge of the Nerds” star, Robert Carradine, was cited with careless driving
in a crash that injured him and his wife east of Delores and completely totaled
their vehicle.
The wreck happened last week when the 60-year-old actor reporedly crossed
into the oncoming lane on Highway 145 and collided with a semi truck.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, Carradine was northbound on the
highway and drove right into the oncoming lane. Both he and his wife were
wearing seatbelts. Officials have eliminated speed and alcohol as factors in the
crash. The accident closed both lanes of traffic for more than two hours on the
day it happened, March 5.
Carradine and his wife were both hurt, thought their injuries were reportedly
not life-threatening. The semi-truck driver was not injured. Carradine worked
steadily in film and television for more than 40 years. He and half-brother
David Carradine often could be seen in the same projects, including the TV
series “Kung Fu.”
Robert Carradine's biggest hit came in 1984 with the comedy "Revenge of the
Nerds.” More recently, Quentin Tarantino cast Carradine in the film “Django
Unchained.”
