Pastors ONLY Seminar-Developing a Holistic Ministry: Instructor, Rev. T. E. Simmons (Mon.-Wed.) Location: Conference Room 206 This course will address pastors understanding that each believer’s body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and it should be nurtured spiritually, physically and mentally. What is the pastoral approach to nonbelievers? Q & A with Pastors and Ministers: Facilitator, Rev. T. E. Simmons (Thursday) Pastors and Ministers combined session: Facilitator, Moderator Paul Garrett (Friday) 4. Associate Pastors, Ministers and Evangelists Seminar: Location: Conference Room 210 This course will be a practical seminar to help bridge the gap in senior and young ministers’ relationships. Discuss ministers’ roles in the church and how to best partner with the pastor to do effective ministry. Ministers will explore skills that will help them to be prepared and relevant as they preach to the 21st century congregation. In addition, they will become aware of the essentials of leadership and how to cast the church’s vision of leadership to the pew. They will also learn the importance of developing lay leadership. Kenneth Dean Location: Sanctuary When you think about the plight of families today, what comes to mind? This course will focus on family dynamics. Students will learn biblical models for making the family stronger and better. Explore contemporary issues and relate to biblical principles. ~~~Division of History and Doctrine~~~ 6. 301 Doctrine of the Baptist Church: Instructor, Dr. S. B. Neely (Certification Class) Location: Classroom 3 What do we believe as Baptists? This course deals with Baptists belief and practice. Students will also discover how the Baptist church operates, components of the Baptist Doctrine and how it relates to other faiths. ~~~Division of Church Leadership and Development~~~ 7. The Church’s Ministry to the Community: Facilitator, Sis. Etha Jackson Location: Classroom 6 What is a ministry? What is the relationship of ministry to mission? This course will establish structure for the church’s involvement in church and community efforts. A panel will discuss how their church has identified needs and developed strategies to meet them. We will explore how our local churches, RRBA and E&M Baptist Convention applied these strategies to the Haiti Mission. In addition, students will assess needs and develop a plan to meet local church and community needs. Friday, students will share their assessment and plans with class members. 8. 401 Biblical Principles of Leadership: Instructor, Dr. Tony Boyce (Certification Class) Location: Classroom 7 Deacons, Trustees, Ushers, and other auxiliary leaders, this course will explore multiple examples of Biblical leadership. The goal of this course is to bring light to various ways a Christian leader can become more effective by words and deeds, especially during conflict management. The student will be more equipped to become involved in God’s kingdom building. 9. 405 How to Organize & Administer the Church School: Instructor, Min. Lesia Patterson (Certification Class) Location: M. P. Robertson Fellowship Center This course will focus on the various administrative tasks needed to direct the church school ministry. Administrative functions will include: planning, programming, curriculum, budgeting, supervision, delegation and evaluation. Establishing and maintaining relationship are important in administration of a church school. ~~~Division of Ministry of Fine Arts~~~ 10. 502 Using Technology in Christian Education: Instructor, Sis. Catherine Thompson-Nesbitt and Bro. Kelvin Davis (Certification Class) Location: Classroom 4 This course will teach students how to access a variety of technology resources to enhance the Christian Education Ministry in their local churches. The instructor will provide hands on application that will teach you how to effectively use: systems and software, technology for communications, and the internet to enhance ministries. Students need to bring their own internet accessible Lap Top. Class limited to 15. 11. 503 Christian Education and the Arts: Instructor, Rev. Marecia Hall (Certification Class) Location: Classroom 5 Note unique class schedule - 2/16 (Saturday), 2/18, and 2/22 This course is designed to teach students how to utilize the arts (drama, puppetry, dance, mime, etc.,) in Christian Education. 12. The Ministry of Praise Dancing and Mime: Instructor, Sis. Doris Banks Location: Music Room 209 This course will teach students about praise dancing and how it can be used as a tool for ministry and worship. They will learn to remove self and let the Holy Spirit have its way through the ministry of dance. Students will present a praise dance or appropriate dance for closing worship service. ~~~YOUTH/CHILDREN’S DEPARTMENT~~~ 13. Teens, Grades 7-12: Instructors, Rev. Ron Moss, Minister Jacqueline Gary and Deacon Rodney Jones Location: S. B. Neely Auditorium Why we do what we do as Baptists? Students in each youth/children class will study leadership styles in the Bible as they relate to age appropriate topics such as getting along with others, Christian dating, decision making, listening to music, authority to adults and the use of technology. One skit, with responses from all departments, will be presented on Friday. It will summarize leadership styles in the Bible and steps students can take to follow God’s examples in daily decision making. 14. Grades 4-6: Instructors, Minister Lorenzo Whitfield and Sis.
