Create vibrant aboriginal designs, faux stained glass, exciting tie dye t-shirts, yarn globe mobiles, canvas paintings, and more! Learn about famous artists like Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol and create your own pop art! Work with many colorful materials like stained glass paint, inks, modge podge, oil pastels and acrylic paints. Instructor: KELLAR FUN WITH NATURE 1.2 Ages 6 to 7 When you look all around you, what do you see? There is art in your natural surroundings! Discover how nature has inspired artists like Van Gogh, Monet and Andy Goldsworthy. Work with natural mediums and recycled items to create things like your own paper, paper lanterns, and wind chimes. Learn to paint on canvas, make sun catchers and discover nature’s creatures. Instructor: PLACKY ADVENTURES IN DRAWING & PAINTING 1.3 Ages 8 to 10 Why not incorporate multiple mediums within a work of art? Let’s see how creative we can get with watercolor, charcoal, graphite, acrylic paints, and pastels. Start with basics like gesture and blind drawings, and later move on to more complex ideas like creating artwork based on alternate universes. Let’s investigate parts of campus, such as the Arboretum and the Palmer Museum of Art, while discovering new ways of seeing the world around you. Let the creativity flow! Instructor: FISCHER INVENTOR'S NOTEBOOK 1.4 Ages 8 to 10 Make your inventions jump off the page! Design flying machines like Leonardo DaVinci and build moveable wind-up toys, use rulers to draw an object to scale, invent fantastic machines with found objects and building materials like Rube Goldberg, make wire kinetic sculptures inspired by Alexander Calder. Instructor: MOCK JURASSIC JOURNEY 1.5 Ages 8 to 10 Get lost on this journey and discover a blast from the past! Walk on the wild side with these prehistoric pets as you hatch baby dinosaurs from paper mache eggs, uncover fabulous fossils out of plaster and clay, gather an archeological expedition to dig for dinosaur bones, and even paint landscapes from prehistoric days. Field trips will include a special star show in the planetarium at Penn State’s Davey Laboratory and a visit to the Earth and Science Museum. Instructor: MOCK UNIQUELY YOU 2.3 Ages 8 to 10 Express yourself through art! Showcase your personal identity as you design your own logo, collaged self portrait, and illustrated story book. Be inspired by art around the world as you create artwork that needs your unique touch to bring it to life. Work with a variety of materials including printmaking, acrylic paints, wire sculpture materials and fabric. Recreate ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics, beat the ceremonial drums of African culture, piece together a Greek mosaic, create a traditional Japanese brush painting, and more. Use a variety of materials as we journey around the world! Instructor: FISCHER FANTASTIC COMIC CHARACTERS 2.5 Ages 8 to 10 Do you enjoy making up your own stories with heroes and villains? If so, then join us for this exploration of the world of fantasy! Focusing largely on drawing techniques, create your own comic book universe as you learn to draw figures, textures, scenery and movement. Design your own super hero logo which you will screen print on fabric, your own mask, and action flip books. Instructor: MARK Session 3 July 6-10 9:00am-4:00pm ANIMAL SAFARI 3.1 Ages 6 to 7 Join in on the safari as we use art to learn about the animals that make the African Plains their home. Experience the safari adventure by creating your favorite animals, all the way from towering giraffes to slithering snakes. Bring your animals to life through vibrant paintings, collage, chalk pastels, sculpture, and more! Instructor: SILLIMAN MEDIA MASH-UP! 3.2 Ages 6 to 7 Investigate new medias and ways of working them together. Explore the magic of shaving cream to create marbled notebooks, make sun catchers from glue, capture your dreams with a giant dream catcher, make a 3D self-portrait out of plaster strips, print collaborative designs, and paint with bubble wrap. Make 3D self –sculptures, Japanese -bound books, and a canvas painting using collaged, decorative papers. Use stencils and household objects to create your masterpieces. Discuss Jackson Pollock and how he used movement to make his famous splatter paintings. Turn up the music and move to the beat of the brush! Instructor: FISCHER PLACES AND SPACES 5.3 Ages 8-10 Art is everywhere! Look at buildings, sculptures, bridges, gates, and other public art in your community. Learn about art around you and use your imagination to create your own places and spaces in your art. Learn about public art from the pyramids to enlarged sculptures by Claes Oldenburg. Create cityscapes and maps, build bridges out of wood, wire and paper, and open windows and gates to new! Instructor: BRAGUNIER AQUATIC ART ADVENTURES 5.4 Ages 8-10 Grab your scuba gear and dive in as we explore the Seven Seas! We'll sculpt, paint and collage as we look at various ocean animals and their habitats. Create a 3D aquarium with colorful fish, sculpt a coral reef, and use watercolors and acrylics to paint an underwater scene. Learn about marine artist, Robert Wyland, as we do our own take on one of his murals. From polar animals to deep sea creatures, we'll swim through lots of fun art projects before coming to dry land! Instructor: GATTO MONSTERS AND MYTHICAL CREATURES 5.5 Ages 8-10 Explore the worlds of imaginary monsters and mythical creatures like the Loch Ness Monster, mermaids, and gremlins. Sculpt majestic dragons out of clay, make paper mache monster masks, and collage a photo of your favorite animal into an imaginary creature! Use paints, colored pencils and found objects. Join us for a fun filled adventure full of imagination! Instructor: BAILEY RELAXATION- "A LITTLE R and ART!" 5.6 Ages 11-14 Need a little break from your busy day? Explore creative ways to unwind while focusing your artistic energy. From making calming scented soaps and rice heating pads to making a beaded bonsai tree, you will find many fun methods of relaxation. Learn about Japanese Zen Gardens while creating your own miniature version, and lose yourself in the fluid lines of watercolor while discussing artists such as Paul Cezanne.
