Assignment: Choose one of the biomes you did a presentation on in Science. You will write a report about that biome in reading/ELA over the next week. Then, you will re-create your presentation on that biome adjusting it based on peer feedback and what you’ve learned about effective presentations. This will be a two part project with two separate due dates and two separate project grades. Failure to meet either due date will result in 10 points being taken off that particular section of the project. Essay – due at the end of the day of class Oct. 24. We will type our essays in the computer lab on Oct. 23-24. Failure to meet due dates will result in 10 points off the total essay grade. Essay requirements: Minimum of 5 paragraphs o Introduction paragraph including a thesis statement (main idea of the essay) o Body paragraphs (each should have a topic sentence and a concluding sentence) o Concluding paragraph (summarizes the main idea of the essay) o At least one entire paragraph should deal with the impact of humans on that biome. Typed o Times New Roman o 12 point font o Double spaced o Includes a title and your name Must have a rough draft in pencil that we hand turn in along with the typed version of the essay o Rough draft should clearly show revision o Show your work! Turn in all drafts as well as planning sheets and notes Final draft should be free of spelling and grammatical errors o Proof-read o Run spelling and grammar check on Microsoft Word No part of your essay should be plagiarized!! That means you should not copy and paste from any of your sources or that you type the same thing that is on the Web site and change a couple of words. Presentation – due at the end of the day Oct. 30. Presentations will be rehearsed with peers on Oct. 31 and will be presented to the class on Nov. 1. Presentation requirements Visual presentation form (including but not limited to: Prezi, PowerPoint, Google Drive, etc. Check with Mrs. Patterson about doing anything not on this list). o Should include a minimum of 8 slides Title Page with your name World map showing where that biome is located Description of the biome 3 plants from that biome with a picture and/or description of each 5 animals from that biome with a picture and/or description of each Human interference information x2 Water availability in the biome o You could also include any or all of the following: A food chain from biome. (labeled) Animal adaptations that allow them to survive in that biome Plant adaptations that allow them to survive in that biome Countries or major geographic locations in the biome Ecological problems in the biome o Do not include too many special effects – limit to one per slide o Be sure you use contrasting colors so the information can be easily read from a distance o Should be written in a readable font at a size larger than 22 – titles should be 3640 pt font. o Slides should contain bulleted information These don’t have to be sentences They SHOULD NOT be paragraphs Presentation should be rehearsed. o Practice with a friend on Thursday, Oct. 31 to be ready to present the following day. o Practice at home in front of your family or by yourself. You can print a copy when you’re done on Wednesday to take home to help you rehearse o You should clearly be knowledgeable about your topic and should NOT be reading your presentation to the class.
