SURVIVORS
Diagnosed with breast cancer, Melissa Jimmerson credits the technology and staff of the
John B. Amos Cancer Center with her early diagnosis and survival. “It is because of Dr. Cole’s
skills and the new 3D Mamo Machine technology that my cancer was detected early
enough for me to stand today cancer free.” Still involved with cancer support and patient
advocacy groups, Melissa is a living testament that the advanced technology and world-class
staff provided by the Amos Cancer Center saves lives.
Diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, Mike Venable had treatments at both Duke University Hospital and Emory
Midtown Hospital that failed to treat his disease but the stereotactic radiosurgery provided by the Amos Cancer
Center stopped his cancer dead in its tracks. “With the world class treatment I received in my hometown, I am
alive and walking today because of my Amos Cancer Center team led by Dr. Pippas.”
With no family history, healthy and active Columbus native, Carol Northrup, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Fortunate enough to catch it early, she had a lumpectomy and radiation at the Amos Cancer Center. “I am one of
the lucky ones whose mammogram revealed the earliest stages of breast cancer. It is a wonderful facility and I
was very happy with the care and attention received from Dr. Pippas and his team.”
2016 CELEBRITY CLASSIC AT A GLANCE
Presented by the Synovus Financial Corporation, the 2016 Celebrity Classic will take place Friday, April 15
through Monday, April 18 beginning with the tennis tournament Friday, Jr. Tennis clinics and Celebrity Classic
reception Saturday and golfing on Sunday and Monday. This is a weekend full of entertainment, competition,
celebrities, great food and more that gives back to the lifesaving missions of the Amos Cancer Center.
Date: Friday, April 15
Location: Cooper Creek Tennis Center
Events: The tennis tournament kicks off with registration
and a continental breakfast. In the morning, guests will
participate in clinics directed by professionals. The afternoon
consists of lunch, round robin tournaments and educational tennis
seminars followed by an awards reception. Throughout the day,
participants and guests will be able to bid on amazing resort trips
provided by our PBI Tennis Pros.
Date: Saturday, April 16
Location: Columbus Country Club
Events: The Jr. Tennis tournament offers youth the opportunity
to receive professional tennis instruction and friendly
competition. A continental breakfast and lunch are provided with an
awards reception at the end of the day.
With the location to be announced, The Celebrity Classic Reception
takes place in the evening and is a time for sponsors and guests to mix
and mingle with hospital leadership, physicians and volunteers.
Date: Sunday, April 17
Location: Green Island Country Club
Events: The Jr. Golf tournament offers youth the opportunity
to receive golf tips from professionals and friendly competition
amongst athletes. Snacks are provided for this afternoon event with
an awards reception at the end of the day.
Date: Monday, April 18
Location: Green Island Country Club
Events: The Celebrity Classic golf tournament rounds out the
weekend’s events with a morning and an afternoon flight of golf.
The morning begins with registration and continental breakfast
being served; with lunch provided between flights.
The day will conclude with an awards reception.
