Baumann Library Woodland Park, NJ Job Description: Adult Services Librarian, Part Time The Alfred Baumann Public Library seeks a 24 hour per week, part-time, flexible, energetic, and enthusiastic public service oriented Librarian to serve our community. The Adult Services Librarian would assist and oversee the Library’s Adult Print and Non-print collections, plan and implement adult programs, and participate in the marketing and promotion of library materials, programs, and services. In addition, the Adult Services Librarian, under the direction of the Library Director, acts as the second professional in the planning and day-to-day activities of the library. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, innovative and knowledgeable librarian who will develop, manage and market the Library. In-depth knowledge of resources, library trends and information behavior is expected. The ability to research, interpret and prepare written analysis and reports is necessary. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential. Responsibilities Works under the guidance and direction of the Library Director. Exercises supervision over full time and part-time paraprofessionals, as assigned. Provides general and in-depth reference assistance and reader advisory, using a variety of print and online resources. Participates in the development and maintenance of library collections including, but not limited to, books, periodicals, online databases, and media. Maintains a current knowledge of books, authors, and trends in library services and programs. Maintains and develops library collections and facilitates their use. Participates in the development and maintenance of the library’s web pages. Plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates library adult programs to meet the objectives identified in library planning documents, and community needs, expressed or perceived. Participates in the development of marketing materials for promoting library materials, programs, and services. Participates in the development of policies and standards with regard to collection development and adult services operations. Participates in professional organizations and activities to keep informed of current and emerging trends in public libraries. Assists with providing instruction and training to the public and to library staff. Interprets library goals, objectives, and policies to both library staff and the general public. Ability to work a flexible schedule- evening and weekend hours are required. Qualifications Masters of Library Science Degree, MLIS students will be considered. Extensive working knowledge of reference resources, in both print and non-print formats. Considerable knowledge of principles and practices common to modern library operations. Working knowledge of common computer applications, automated library management systems, and subscription databases. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of office management, work organization and supervision. Must have the ability to organize and meet deadlines. Ability to train, supervise and motivate library staff within a team environment. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel, and the general public. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, to effectively interact with all age levels and cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Experience with public speaking and making presentations. Salary Salary is $23.00 per hour. This position is subject to New Jersey Civil Service regulation. Pursuant to the rules and regulations of the commission, you will be provisionally appointed to the position.
