Center for Student Involvement Scholarship Awards 2014-2015 Robert and Mary Glennen Leader Scholarship 2014-2015 Robert Glennen served as president of Emporia State University for thirteen years, from 1984-1997. During his tenure as president, Dr. Glennen demonstrated exceptional leadership to the university and Teachers College by challenging others to excel. The Robert and Mary Glennen Leader Scholarship will be awarded to "Outstanding students who exemplify the standards of high character, leadership, and commitment to their fellow students.” Those who receive these scholarships shall be known during the time they are at ESU as “Glennen Leader Scholars”. The scholarship will be awarded to students who meet the following criteria and are nominated by a peer, faculty/staff member, or Recognized Student Organization. Criteria for receiving the scholarship: Student has made significant contributions to the enrichment of the campus community through active participation in co-curricular activities, community service, and overall campus and community involvement Student has demonstrated individual initiative, creativity, responsibility, cooperation, citizenship, and leadership through their involvement Student exemplifies high standards of character, leadership, and commitment Application Process: ESU students, faculty/staff members or a Recognized Student Organization can nominate students who they believe meet the high standards of this scholarship. Dr. James Hirsh Student Involvement Scholarship 2014-2015 Dr. James Hirsh was the former Vice President for Student Affairs and advisor to the Associated Student Government. Dr. Hirsh’s commitment to the furtherance of all students at Emporia State University was genuine and unwavering. The Dr. James Hirsh Student Involvement Scholarship honors the memory of Dr. Hirsh and is awarded to one student annually who has made a commitment to the students of Emporia State University; one who mirrors the dedication of Dr. Hirsh, through consistent support of campus organizations as well as the interests of all students. Criteria for receiving the scholarship: Student must have been involved in at least one Recognized Student Organization at ESU. Student must be an undergraduate attending ESU during the 2014-2015 academic year. John R. and Carolyn Webb Leadership Scholarship 2014-2015 The John Webb Leadership Scholarship was established as a tribute to Dr. John R. Webb, who served Emporia State for twenty-seven years, from 1959-1986. Dr. Webb enjoyed a long and distinguished career as Vice President for Student Affairs. During his tenure at Emporia State University, he worked with hundreds of student leaders through the Associated Student Government. Upon his retirement in 1986, the Associated Student Government established the John R. and Carolyn Webb Leadership Scholarship in his honor. Criteria for receiving the scholarship: First preference shall be given to Emporia State University undergraduate students who have demonstrated leadership in two or more campus organizations (i.e. officers, committee chairs). Recipients shall be classified as sophomore or above, and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0. Once a student receives the scholarship, he or she is not eligible to receive it again.
