MINORITY STUDIES SYLLABUS Instructor: Mr. Forst Course Title: Minority Studies Course Description: Minority studies is a course open to junior and senior students that examines the background, the current condition, and future prospects for selected minorities in the United States. Topics of discussion include minorities and politics, economics, education, justice systems, changing demographics and contributions. The Student can be expected to know that: 1. The diversity of racial and ethnic groups in American can result in cultural tensions 2. Despite the differences that exist between racial and ethnic groups, there is still much that all have in common. 3. By learning about each racial group, we will come to understand the common goals they share, and how different racial and ethnic groups can bridge the differences that separate them. Classroom participation (I will keep track of participation it will be worth a percentage of your grade) 2. Homework/In-class assignments (research assignments, journals, etc) 3. Quizzes 4. Semester Exams Academic Rules: Late Homework will be accepted for 50% credit Late Projects/Presentations will lose one letter grade for everyday late Returning from any absence the student must ask Mr. Forst what was missed in class and what can be done to make up the work.
