Spring 2010 Conference Presenters Ellie Miller, BSBE ‘04 Account Executive, Proctor & Gamble Chair, Griffiths Leadership Society Ellie Miller currently lives and works in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She has been an alumnae member of Griffiths for five years and serves as chair for the organization. Ellie is an account executive for Proctor & Gamble, managing the company’s hair care portfolio for Wal-mart. In addition to her work with Griffiths, Ellie serves as the Outreach Department Chair for her church and is a member of the steering committee for Paint the Town Red. She has also served as a member of the Mizzou Alumni Association Long Range Planning Committee. In fall of 2009, she was awarded the G.O.L.D. (Graduates of the Last Decade) Award for her outstanding advocacy on behalf of Mizzou. Dr. Lynn Rossy, BA ‘95, MA ‘96, PhD ‘02 Health Psychologist, University of Missouri As a clinical health psychologist at the University of Missouri, Lynn Rossy directs the activities of the Mindfulness Practice Center and is the Health Psychologist for Healthy for Life, the UM system wellness program for faculty and staff on all four campuses. She is involved in developing, delivering, and researching programs that target stress reduction, physical inactivity, obesity, and smoking cessation. She developed the “Eat for Life” program which helps people have a healthier relationship with their food and their bodies. She has been teaching Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Programs, including yoga and meditation, since 2000. Dr. Rossy received her training from the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare, and Society in Massachusetts. Debbie Jones, BA ‘74 IT Manager, Ford Motor Company, Kansas City Assembly Plant Programming Chair, Griffiths Leadership Society Debbie Jones is currently the IT Manager for the Ford Motor Company Kansas City Assembly Plant. Her team supports both office computers and plant floor automation. She was the first female IT Manager at Ford. Debbie has been a Griffiths member for three years, and currently serves as the Chair of the Programming Committee. Her sister Sheryl is also an alumnae member. Over the past several years, Debbie has participated in fund-raising walks of 60 miles each and personally raised over $15,000 for breast cancer research. Susan Zorsch, BSBA ‘93, MBS ’95, MHA ‘95 Program Manager, Oncology Services, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center Susan N. Zorsch is a graduate of the University of Missouri with a BSBA in Operations Management, Masters of Health Administration and Masters of Business Administration. She is the Program Manager for Oncology at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center in Columbia, Missouri. Her personal experience as a 15-year cancer survivor, diagnosed at the age of 24, has guided her decision to work in cancer and in healthcare. She has 14 years of experience in healthcare program development, capital and fiscal management, operational and strategic planning in cancer center/breast center development. Ms. Zorsch serves on the Mid-Missouri Affiliate Susan G. Komen as Public Policy Co-Chair, and is a previous board member of the Missouri Breast & Cervical Cancer Program. She is an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity and is currently a Membership District Director for the organization. Ms. Zorsch also volunteers as a member of the Speaker’s Bureau for the MidWest Transplant Network. Dr. Cathy Scroggs, PhD ‘94 Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, University of Missouri Vice Chancellor Catherine C. Scroggs serves as a member of the chancellor’s staff and has administrative responsibility for all Student Affairs departments and units. Dr. Scroggs came to MU in 1985 as the assistant director of Residential Life and Greek Life. Since then, Scroggs has been the director of the Department of Student Life, the assistant to the vice chancellor for Student Affairs and the interim vice chancellor for Student Affairs. In January 2003 she was appointed vice chancellor for Student Affairs. Currently, Dr. Scroggs’ professional interests focus on the sophomore or second-year experience. She continues to encourage innovative approaches to delivering programs and services to students, exploring the roles of women in leadership, and building collaborative programs between academics and student affairs. She continues to serve the Columbia community through various volunteer capacities, including, the Heart of Missouri Unity Way Campaign, the board of directors for the Voluntary Action Center and the education committee of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. Barb Hartman Founder, GoBeyond LLC A former Procter and Gamble executive, Barb Hartman is a sought-after speaker and consultant for her specialty in developing, managing and growing extraordinary business relationships. When relationships are outstanding, the journey is enjoyable. Work is not something you trudge forward through, it’s a joyful experience on the road of life. The journey should be phenomenal, and fun. Hartman joined Procter & Gamble in 1975 as a sales representative and rose to the title of vice president of Customer Business Development North America. After a 33-year career at Procter & Gamble, Hartman founded GoBeyond, a corporate and entrepreneurial consulting firm that guides companies through every facet of building exceptional business relationships. Lindsay Eanet Senior, Magazine Journalism, University of Missouri Semifinalist on JEOPARDY! Lindsay Eanet is a senior Magazine Journalism major with a Spanish minor at the University of Missouri. She is originally from the Chicago area. Lindsay is a freelance writer whose work has been featured in Herizons, In These Times magazine and on McSweeney’s.net, and she is a regular contributor to CountryMusicPride.com. At Mizzou, she has served on The Maneater editorial board, Alternative Spring Break, the Jewish Students Organization and the Vagina Monologues. Lindsay had the unique opportunity to represent MU at the 2010 Jeopardy! College Championship, where she finished as a semifinalist. Dr. Jennifer Stevens Aubrey Assistant Professor, Department of Communication, University of Missouri Jennifer Stevens Aubrey earned her doctorate in communication from the University of Michigan. She is now an assistant professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Missouri. Jennifer’s research interests include mass communication processes and effects, especially on adolescents and young adults. Currently Jennifer is studying the emotional, mental and physical health of young adults and how it is effected by various media. She also examines the effects of sexual objectification in the media on adolescents' self-consciousness about their bodies. Her research has been published in Communication Research, Media Psychology, and Journal of Communication. The quality of her scholarship has been recognized by a number of awards and grants to support her research. Her first book, co-authored with Melissa Click and Elizabeth Behm-Morawitz, titled Bitten by Twilight: Youth Culture, Media and the Vampire Franchise will be published in May. Danene Beedle Marketing Director, Missouri Wine and Grape Board Danene Beedle believes in quality, and that includes good food and wine. Her passion for wine lead Danene to her current career as the Marketing Director for the Missouri Wine and Grape Board. She works as an ambassador for the MWGB promoting winery tourism, Missouri wine history, local food and wine pairings as well as grape growing. As a professional with more than 13 years experience in the retail industry, Danene works to formulate marketing strategies for 90 wineries in the state of Missouri. Women in Business Panelists Andrea Allison-Putman, BSBA ‘85 Alumnae Membership Vice Chair, Griffiths Leadership Society Andrea Allison-Putman is a leadership professional with over fifteen years of unique experience combining human resources management with community relations expertise. She currently holds the position of Director of Community Relations for QC Holdings Companies. Andrea is very active in the Kansas City community and has served as a board member of the Coterie Theatre, Harvesters and Women at Work among others. She has participated in The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Centurions Leadership Program and is the Vice Chair of the Griffiths Alumnae Membership Committee. Andrea has been a member of Griffiths for three years. Her daughter, Minniesha, is a junior at Mizzou and is also a collegian member. Sheryl Jones-Zahorsky, BS ‘74 Alumnae Member, Griffiths Leadership Society Sheryl is a registered dietitian and received her BS in Medical Dietetics in 1974. She worked in hospitals as a dietitian for 15 years with ever increasing supervisory responsibilities. She received her MBA at the University of Central Missouri in 1989. Sheryl worked as a Nutritional Product sales representative for Bristol-Meyers Squibb for several years. In 1992, she began her career in home health care as a sales representative for a home infusion company at the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) in Kansas City. While at the VNA, Sheryl managed multiple departments including medical review, regulatory affairs, sales team, health promotion and any task given to her. She left the VNA in 2008 and presently works as the Manager of Product Services for the Corridor Group which is a consulting firm for home health and hospice. Alexia Norris, BA ‘03, JD ‘06 Alumnae Member, Griffiths Leadership Society Alexia (Lexi) Norris is an attorney in the Kansas City area. Lexi earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 2003 and her Law degree in 2006, both from Mizzou. She began her career with the King Hershey law firm, focusing her practice on real estate development and finance. Lexi currently practices with a transactional firm in Overland Park, and her diverse clientele includes small businesses, private equity firms and a Fortune 500 company. Lexi is running for State Representative in the 30th District in Platte County. She hopes to spend much of her time working on legislative issues in Jefferson City, such as restoring funding for Missouri's higher education institutions. In addition to campaigning, Lexi spends her time volunteering as a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City and serves as a board member for the Kansas City Mizzou Alumni Chapter and the Northland Animal Welfare Society. Robyn Ridgway, M Ed ‘07 Alumnae Member, Griffiths Leadership Society Robyn Ridgway is the Director of Advising and Student Services for the Crosby MBA Program. She holds a Masters Degree in Higher Education from the Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis department at the University of Missouri and a B.S. in business and management from the University of Maryland University College. Robyn has been working in the area of student services for the past 15 years, with the last seven with the Crosby MBA Program. Robyn belongs to several professional organizations and has been an alumnae member of Griffiths for two years. Giving Back to the Community Panelists Kathryn Cunningham President, Moresource Inc. Kat Cunningham launched Moresource, Inc., a professional employer organization, in 1994. PEO’s assist small businesses by managing their payroll, human resources and safety. Through these organizations, small employers are able to offer retirement and medical benefits that may otherwise be out of reach. Cunningham’s organization deals with companies of all sizes. Kat is a native of Fulton and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation and Leisure from Missouri State University in 1982 and a Master’s Degree in Orgizational Management from the University of Phoenix. She is also a graduate of Leadership Columbia, Leadership Missouri and Leadership Jefferson City. Kat has been involved with the Columbia Chambe of Commerce and the Susan G. Komen Mid-Missouri Affiliate. Diana Moxon Exectuive Director, Columbia Art League Diana Moxon works as the Executive Director of the Columbia Art League, running the League’s art, education and community programs, including Art in the Park. She has worked in public relations all over the world. A native of Preston, Landshire, England, Diana moved to Columbia in late 2005. She has found her home in Columbia and become involved in the community through the Art League, the Boone County Council on Aging and the Visioning Process. Diana received a degree in Sweedish Linguistics from the University of East Anglia. She also speaks several languages. Diana is passionate about her job and working with the community, and says that is what keeps her work interesting. Cynthia Mustard, BA ‘65 Alumnae Member, Griffiths Leadership Society Cindy Mustard has made a difference in the lives of many people through her work as the Executive Director of the Voluntary Action Center. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in history from Mizzou in 1965. After graduation, Cindy worked for Camp Fire, Inc. for nearly 20 years. She then joined the staff of the American Cancer Society before assuming her role at the VAC in Columbia. Cindy has worked tirelessly over the years to give back to the Columbia community, serving in various capacities with the Boys & Girls Club, Interfaith Council, the Columbia Chamber of Commerce among other organizations. She has been recognized for her work with several awards, including the 2009 Spirit of Martha Award.
