This week we welcomed Bishop Justin Duckworth to the school. As
always he was open, enthusiastic and engaged fully with all aspects
of the school. The students whose classes he visited were able to
discuss matters of significance to all parties, such as the
development of Christianity in New Zealand and social justice.

reference. The deadline for returning information is Tuesday 28

Our school field is being levelled and re-sown with grass and work
will begin on that next week. Once started the field will be entirely
out of action from that date until the beginning of 2015. Students
who normally walk to and/or from school via the field will need to
plot out an alternative route.

Marsden Whitby Information Evening
We will be holding an information session at Kapiti Community Centre, Ngahine Street,
Paraparaumu on Tuesday 4 November at 7pm. It is an opportunity to learn more
about Marsden Whitby so if you know someone who may be interested please pass on
this information.
This year the Humanities Department will be offering Year 7-10 students the
opportunity to participate in the Asia Wise competition. This is a programme that
combines history and geography projects with research skills. The students will have
from 17 to 28 November to complete the 50 questions in the competition in GLP/Social
Sciences timetabled classes and for homework. The competition costs $7 per student.

Instructions
 Make sure you are on time and be certain about the time and place of each
examination.
 You must be lined up by 8.40am for morning sessions and 1.10pm for afternoon
ones.
 If you arrive late you will not get extra time.
 If you are eligible for special conditions follow the instructions you have been given
by Mrs Smith.
 There must be absolute silence from the time you enter the examination room until
you leave it at the end of the session.
 If you need anything in the examination room, put up your hand.
 No one will be allowed to leave the examination room early so be prepared to sit for
2 hours (toilet breaks will be possible).
 Check answers carefully if you finish early. Re-read every section and every answer.
 All the equipment you require for each paper – pens, pencils, ruler, eraser,
calculator, compass, protractor, coloured pencils etc. – must be carried in a clear
plastic bag.
 Take tissues into the exam room but NOT food, bags, cell phones or Twink. Cell
phones are to be left at home or handed into the supervisor who will place them on
the desk at the front of the room. Water bottles are OK.
 Write in blue or black pen only. Use pencil only for music, maths construction
etc.
 Programmable calculators must be cleared and there are to be no electronic
dictionaries/digital diaries etc. in the room.
 If in doubt about anything, ask.
 At the end you must stop writing as soon as you are instructed to do so.
Please Note: Periods 3 and 4 each day will be shortened lessons. Your usual classes
will occur at these times and you will need to have the correct equipment for them.
Interval will be slightly later each day and there will be no tutor time. This is only for
the 3 days of the examinations.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Dr W K Bryson Scholarship
For students who are undertaking first year of study pursuing a course in either
medicine or science in 2015 and who have lived in Porirua City during final year at
school. Notification calling for applicants was in Dominion Post of 22 October and will
be again this Saturday 25 October. Further information can be obtained from the
Secretary of the Mana Lions Club at P O Box 57-016, Porirua 5247.
Undergraduate Scholarships to Study at the University of Cambridge, England
Girdlers’ Scholarship – The Worshipful Company of Girdlers’ in London offers one
scholarship a year to enable a distinguished New Zealand school student to undertake a
degree course at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. The scholarship is intended
to cover university and college fees, and some living expenses.

Sir Douglas Meyers Scholarship – This scholarship enables the successful applicant to
undertake an undergraduate degree at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. The
scholarship provides tuition fees and a living allowance. Further information about

Undergraduate Scholarships to Study in the USA
The Robertson Scholars Program- This program provides opportunities for study at
Duke University or the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the USA. It provides
full tuition, room and board, and a living allowance. In addition, support is provided for
three summers of service, research and travel. Further information about applying for
the scholarship is available from the Universities New Zealand

If you are planning to attend Whitireia next year then there are 10 scholarships valued
at $4,000 for students enrolling in the first year of full time study in one of the following
courses:

Performing Arts (Dance); Diploma in Stage and Screen Arts; Bachelor of Applied Arts

Whitireia by 5pm Wednesday 22 October. Late or incomplete applications will not be
accepted.
VICTORIA UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS
A notice from Victoria University.
To continue strengthening ties between the ASEAN region and Victoria University of
Wellington, we are very pleased to announce that this year we are able to offer six
scholarships to eligible students of the ASEAN region. This is particularly exciting as
next year will mark the 40th anniversary of New Zealand and ASEAN relations.
The scholarship will cover the tuition fees for the first year of study for an
undergraduate degree beginning in 2015. This is a merit-based scholarship and the
eligibility criteria remains largely the same as last year, the changes are noted below.
· Students can begin their study at Victoria in either Trimester 1 or Trimester 2, 2015
· Students must be under the age of 23 on 31 December 2014 (previously this was 22)

The University Of Otago School Of Surveying offers a Bachelor of Applied Science
degree in Geographic Information Systems and a Bachelor of Surveying. For further

University of Auckland
Change of admission requirement from 2016 (Year 12 please note)
The University of Auckland is introducing a new Academic English Language
Requirement (AELR) for entry to all their degrees from 2016. The requirement will be
as follows: In addition to any University Entrance Literacy standard, for those applying
on the basis of NCEA results the applicant must have gained a minimum of 17 credits in
English at Level 2 and/or 3.
You can also find the details of this requirement on their website. The new requirement
is part of gaining an unconditional offer to the University. Students who do not meet
this requirement will be offered a place, but will be required to pass an English course
at the University.
Massey University
