Share A Smile with a Veteran needs YOU!!!! Dear . Many of our men and women who have served in the military do not qualify for dental care through the Veteran’s Administration. The Veterans Center in Kansas City estimates that 32% of the veterans they see have no access to dental health care. To help fill that void, Share A Smile with a Veteran was developed. Here’s how the program works: The Veterans Center and VA Hospital screen people asking for dental help and referred qualified vets to Concorde Career Institute’s Hygiene Program with a referral slip. The Veteran called Concorde and made an appointment. At that appointment, necessary X-rays and hygiene were performed at no cost to the Veteran. The Dental Director of Concorde evaluated other work necessary and gave the Veteran a referral slip to a participating Dentist. Digital X-rays were forwarded to a dental office. We recruited a corps of dental volunteers who were willing to give a hand-up to a veteran in need for the past two years. Each dentist designated what level they wanted to participate: -1 patient family/year - 2-6 patient families/year - 1 patient family each month - Call me any time The Dentist was asked to provide care for the Veteran at no cost for 2 years or until the patient has gotten a job/dental insurance. We have enlisted dental laboratories and supply houses to also participate so that helped defray costs. Now, we are taking our program nationwide. We are recruiting other Hygiene Schools to sign-up and help provide care for those who have sacrificed their lives for us. Supporting our troops after they have sacrificed their time, life and family is one way that the dental community can be in active duty for our country.
