1) This page with information requested below.
2) A 500- word essay on the following topic:
The James Patterson Scholarship is awarded to first year teacher credential candidates who are committed
to promoting reading and instilling a lasting love of reading in their students. Please describe your own
journey as a reader, any past experience working with developing readers, and how you hope to ensure that
all students, particularly students from under-served communities – become highly skilled and engaged
readers.
3) To have your financial need considered, please include a separate statement detailing any factors that should be
considered in determining need. Please indicate any USF School of Ed. scholarships or tuition reductions (e.g.,
Catholic Educator Reduced Tuition rate) you received this academic year.
In addition, you must submit the Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available at
www.fafsa.gov. If you have already submitted the FAFSA to USF, you do not need to do so again.
All recipients of the scholarship agree to have their name, photo and bio shared with the donor and on the USF
website. Each student to whom a scholarship is awarded must submit a written report of approximately 3-4 pages
describing the ways in which they can apply what they have learned in course work to their future classroom
teaching.
If a student to whom a scholarship has been awarded ceases to meet the eligibility criteria at any point during the
2015-2016 academic year, whether because of change in curricula, major or course of study, voluntary or
involuntary withdrawal or dismissal from the academic program, or for any other reason, the student will forfeit
any remaining undisbursed scholarship funds and will not be eligible for future scholarship funds, but will not have
to refund any scholarship funds that have already been applied against tuition and fees.
Please direct any questions to teachered@usfca.edu.
