Queen Elizabeth II By Wadhana Queen Elizabeth II was born in 1926. At the time of her birth, no one thought Elizabeth would someday become Queen of Great Britain. She was raised in royal family but was not directly in line for the throne. She has travelled many countries and met many world leaders. She probably travelled more miles than any other Queen or king in the history. She’s the second longest ruling Queen in Britain’s history. Queen Elizabeth II was born Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary on April 21st, 1926. Her father was Prince Albert, Duke of York, and her mother was Elizabeth Bowne-Lyon. She was the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, who later became King George and Queen Elizabeth. At the time she stood third in line of succession to the throne after Edward, Prince of Wales, and her father, The Duke of York. It was not expected that her father would become King, or that she would become Queen. She trained for her Royal duties before she became Queen. She enjoys riding horses and loves dogs. Queen Elizabeth II married Prince Philip before she became Queen. Britain has changed in the last decade and she has less power than Kings and Queens in the past. The elected Government rules Britain and she has input but does not have the final say in decisions. Queen Elizabeth is always well groomed. She has curly, short hair. She wears lots of jewelry. Queen Elizabeth has been famous all her life, even when it was not anticipated that she would ever become queen. Her role is that she is the head of the state in the United Kingdom and also head of 16 other countries including Canada and Australia. Queen Elizabeth is kind because she support many charities. She’s honest because she never tells lies to other people. She is good at sport and she loves riding horses and watching horse racing and horse shows. She also owns some race horses herself. She has two birthdays. Her real birthday is on 21st April. Her official birthday as Queen is in June. Queen Elizabeth has made many changes during her rule. She opened up royal palace for public viewing. She changed some rules and supports many charities. Queen Elizabeth is a role model for British women and many women throughout the world. She has many leadership qualities. She is noble, sensible, knowledgeable, intelligent, respectful, calm, gracious and dignified. She listens to advice, is decisive and hardworking. Her strengths are loyalty, determination and dedication to her duties. Some see her weakness being that she is conservative. She is seen by some to also be a bit cold and stiff. People respect her. She has been described as an “incredible woman”. She is a role model. People look up to her and admire to her. She is a successful leader. Queen Elizabeth has been on the throne for so long so it proves that you don’t have to be young to do something well. She has been a Queen for 60 years. This shows how strong and healthy she is.
