St. Mary School Scholarships – 2015
ATA Evergreen Catholic Local Education Scholarship - $500.00***
(Provided by Evergreen Catholic ATA)
To be presented to a grade 12 graduating student who:
o Plans to enter the Faculty of Education
o Is registered in a university or college transfer program
o Has maintained good academic standing
o Demonstrates leadership and a caring attitude toward fellow students
o Displays a Christian attitude
o Has been involved in extra-curricular activities
o Has done peer tutoring or volunteer work with children
o To apply: a letter detailing your qualifications must be sent to the school
ELKS Community Award ***– See attached handout
Two awards of $1,000.00 each
(Provided by Westlock ELKS Club)
Evergreen C.S.R.D. #2 Academic Scholarship - $500.00
(Provided by Evergreen School Division)
 Awarded to a graduating grade 12 student who has achieved the highest academic
average as per Rutherford Scholarship criteria. No need to apply.
Knights of Columbus Scholarship $500.00***
(Provided by St. Mary’s Parish Knights of Columbus)
 Awarded on the basis of demonstrated enthusiasm in charitable works, involvement in
the community, contribution to the parish community/parish involvement, and positive
interactions with fellow students/positive citizenship. High academic achievement is not
a leading criterion; however, the student should demonstrate an ability to achieve success
in his or her post-secondary program.
 To be presented to a student entering a post secondary program.
 Application should include a cover letter, transcript of marks and proof of acceptance at a
post-secondary institution.

The Peter Skitsko Science Achievement Award - $300.00
(Provided by Mr. Peter Skitsko)
 The scholarship will be presented to the student who achieved the highest combined
average in two of the following subjects: Biology 30, Chemistry 30, or Physics 30.
Students must be enrolled in a post secondary program. No need to apply.
Roy Ritter Memorial Scholarship - $500.00***
(Provided by Westlock Rotary Club)
 Awarded on the basis of involvement in school and community activities, academics
and financial need

Sisters of Charity—Halifax - $500.00 (One will be awarded)***
(Provided by the Sisters of Charity Halifax)
 To be awarded to a graduating grade twelve student pursuing post secondary studies
in the field of education or health care.
 To apply, applicants must write a brief letter highlighting their eligibility for this
award. School/community involvement, suitability for selected field of study, career
goals will be considered. Academics and/or financial need might also be considered.
Royal Canadian Legion Scholarships*** – Three Separate Awards Available, as listed below.
Separate applications are required for each (see attached). Please write letters in proper letter
format. Letters not signed will not be considered. To be considered, you must have a relative
with military service. Please see Mr. Nakonechny for application forms.

Friends of the Westlock Public Library Society “Dedicated Student Award”Scholarship

This award is presented to a graduate who meets the following criteria:
 Committed to consistently devoting outstanding effort in their studies (high marks are not
necessary)
 Demonstrates a positive attitude towards school and in the community
 Preference is given to a student whose focus is in arts, culture or social studies
Students interested in this award should provide a letter detailing their qualifications to
administration by June 20, 2015
