Curriculum Policy & Resources The College of Health Sciences and Professions has a standing curriculum committee comprised of two faculty representatives from each academic unit. The purpose of the College Curriculum Committee (CCC) is to enhance consistency in the college curriculum review process. The role of the Chair o Determine meeting agenda o Approve/return courses and programs o Document CCC discussion in minutes o Liaison with UCC as needed o Send CCC meeting dates to CHSP academic units at least twice a year o Follow up with course/program contacts related to course/program approval status Chair term: Chair should be able to make a 3-year commitment o Two years as the chair o At least one semester as “past” chair to assist new chair o Chair should always be a faculty member from a department or school o The chair can approve courses/programs when the committee agrees that courses/programs returned to units for revisions are minor enough that they require no additional review Chair and meetings o The chair will establish semester meeting times prior to the start of the semester o The committee will always meet unless there are no agenda items or issues to consider o The chair can call special meetings if time-sensitive curricular issues arise between scheduled meetings Course reviews o Chair will maintain a working list of course change requests to determine if it is reasonable to identify “minor” changes in order to make meeting more efficient o Courses and programs would be reviewed on a first in-first out basis CCC Membership expectations o The expectation is that each unit representative will have carefully reviewed all curriculum materials before each meeting. An orientation at the beginning of each academic year will include a review of the CCC guiding principles, an overview of the curriculum review process, and suggestions on what to look for in courses and programs. o The unit representative is expected to adhere to high standards when preparing and submitting materials to CCC. Furthermore, the unit representative is expected to be prepared to answer questions about the items submitted and go back to academic unit to communicate feedback. o For new courses, CCC would like each unit to answer questions such as: Why is the new course needed? Will this course be a required or elective course? Such questions will allow the CCC to “get the bigger picture” of the curriculum changes that are occurring, especially in an RCM environment. There was also discussion of how CCC will evaluate responses to these questions. That is, under what circumstances will CCC return a course because we do not agree that it is needed? However, all agreed that the questions are important and need to be asked. o Units will have an alternate attend a meeting in the exceptional circumstance that the designated CCC member cannot attend.
