Central Raider 7th - 9th Grade Phys. Ed. Fall 2013 Syllabus Course Description: Students will develop total body strength and coordination through the use of various bodyweight movements. Course Objectives: Enhance students’ physical abilities and overall fitness. Course Instructional Methods: Group instruction Individual instruction Periodic lecture/quizzes Video analysis Article Review Course Curriculum: Weightlifting Bodyweight Strength Movements Plyometric Training Speed Development Athlete Nutrition/Recovery Strength and Power Training Principles Grading Scale: A = 100-90% B = 89-80% C = 79-70% D = 69-60% F = <60% Daily Points: There are 10 points possible per day Students are required to wear Central PE uniform (No uniform, no points. Half uniform, no points.) Students are graded daily for attitude and effort. Any disrespectful actions towards teacher or other students will result in a zero Absences: Unexcused Absence: Missing class without presenting an “Admit Slip” for the missed day. Excused Absence: Sickness, School Trip, Parent/Doctor “Injury” Excuse, etc. “Admit Slip” must be presented to Coach Jonker for the missed day. Injuries: Parents can only excuse their child’s “injury” for one week. After that week, a doctor note is required. Doctor’s notes need to have activity limits and time frames on them. For students with arm injuries, a lower body workout will be provided. For students with leg injuries, a lower body workout will be provided. The daily points for an unexcused absence cannot be made up for points. Excused absences can be made up at any point throughout the quarter during class. To make up an excused absence, a one page article review can be turned in for full credit. *Article Review Rubric available in hard copy. If the excused absence is for a school event, the absence can be made up with 60 thrusters with a prescribed weight. Note: An absence will not be excused unless an “Admit Slip” for the missed day is presented to Coach Jonker. Final Exam: A final exam may be given at the end of the semester. Electronic Devices: Cell phones, iPods, and other electronic devices are not allowed during class. All electronic devices need to be left in lockers during class. Any electronic devices brought to class will be confiscated and turned into the office. About the Instructor: Coach Brad Jonker graduated in 2010 from MidAmerica Nazarene University where he earned his B.A. in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Physical Education. While attending MidAmerica, he competed in football, weightlifting, and track. Since graduating, Coach Jonker has taught in the Circle school district where he also coached football and helped start and coach an after school weightlifting program. Coach Jonker holds the Level 2 – Senior Coach certification through USA Weightlifting, and also continues to compete in weightlifting.
