Aliens in Glendale! LIES! Everyone said that the aliens fell in Roswell, New Mexico, but that wasn’t true at all. In fact, they fell right outside of Phoenix, in a city called Glendale… right in the middle of her school’s basketball court. Miss Jerlinga was the first scientist on the case, with her helpful (wo)Men in Black Special Ops Team: Maramlysalie, Sunshine & Cloudy Day, Dimples, Ms. Attitude, and Albert Andstein. Less than 2 feet tall, the aliens all seemed slow and messed up from being on a new planet. So, Miss J and the scientists caught the aliens and put them in the teacher’s lounge to see what would happen. As the scientists peered through the windows, they noticed that the life-spans of the aliens were very short—they only seemed to live about 10 minutes. To keep their population going, they made offspring by clapping the hand-like organs that grew out of their backs . Moments later, new aliens would come leaping out of the pouch one had on its stomach. Your goal: Help Miss J, Maramlysalie, Sunshine & Cloudy Day, Dimples, Ms. Attitude and Albert Andstein figure out… What alien traits are DOMINANT and RECESSIVE. Predict what aliens would pop up next. To solve, you may use any or all of the following strategies: 1. 2. 3. 4. Make charts Make Punnet squares Draw diagrams or pictures Rewrite information in different way ORGANIZE YOUR INFORMATION FROM THE OBSERVATIONS ON A SEPARATE SHEET OF PAPER Team Observations Dimples’ observations: Aliens seem to have either three googly eyes that stick out of tubes from their heads or eight googly eyes on tubes. Aliens either had star shaped heads or heads shaped like light bulbs. Some aliens were green and others were purple. Aliens either sang or made clicking sounds Some of the aliens smelled like cotton candy and others smelled like old gym shoes. Aliens either hopped like kangaroos or crept like a jungle cat searching for prey Sunshine & Cloudy Day’s Observations: A green alien with a light bulb head clapped hands with a purple light bulb alien and saw a purple star-head alien pop out of a pouch. Two 3-googly eyed green monsters clapped and two more 3-googly eyed green monsters popped out. A green alien with a green alien makes green alien, but a purple alien with a purple alien sometimes made purple, but sometimes made green. An alien that sang clapped with an alien who clicked, and produced one of each. Maramlysalie’s Observations A purple alien that smelled like cotton candy clapped with a purple alien that smelled like old gym shoes and a green alien that smelled like shoes hopped out. A light bulb headed alien that smelled of cotton candy clapped with a star headed alien that smelled of cotton candy, and a light bulbed head alien smelling of cotton candy hopped out. Light bulb heads could produce light bulb heads or star heads, but star heads never produced light bulb heads. Aliens that smelled of shoes never came from two aliens who smelled of cotton candy, but aliens who smelled of shoes COULD sometimes create the good smelling aliens. Ms. Attitude & Albert Andstein’s Observations A hopping 8-eyed alien clapped a crouching 8-eyed alien and a 3eyed, crouching alien popped up. Crouching, prey like aliens were often purple and light bulb headed. Hopper aliens were usually green and star headed. A singing green alien clapped with a singing green alien and produced one singing green alien and one clicking green alien. Put your FINAL ANSWERS HERE!
