2. Dental deposits: structure, formation, mechanism of action. Microbiology of periodontal diseases.
3. Prophylaxis in periodontology.
SEMINARS
1. Anatomy of gingival sulcus. Periodontal probe. Clinical examination of oral mucosa and
periodontium. Patient’s card.
2. Dental plaque and calculus. Approximal plaque index. Patient motivation and education for
effective plaque control. Periodontal tools. Manual and powered mechanical instrumentation. Ist
quiz.
3. Principles of instrumentation – part I. Methodology of working with periodontal tools. Basic
periodontal procedures – differences (supragingival scaling, subgingival scaling, curettage).
4. Principles of instrumentation – part II. Evaluation (quiz + practical examination).
PRACTICAL SKILLS
1. Clinical examination of oral mucosa and periodontium. Examination of gingival sulcus with
periodontal probe.
2. Clinical examination of oral mucosa and periodontium. Estimation of oral hygiene indices. Practical
aspects of patient education for effective plaque control. Periodontal tools in practice.
3. Supragingival scaling. Procedures on phantom teeth .
4. Subgingival scaling. Procedures on phantom teeth. Practical skills evaluation.
