reference desk. What does patron-centered learning mean? What strategies do you use to connect with
users at the reference desk? How can we motivate authentic learning within the context of reference?
Learn from others and share your own strategies for connecting with users as unique individuals, not just
information problems to be solved. Facilitator: Kevin Michael Klipfel, CA State Univ, Chico

presentation will describe a protocol we have developed for teaching students conducting empirical
research to document their work in such a way that their results are completely reproducible and
verifiable. The protocol prescribes the creation and organization of a set of data, command, and metadata
files, and is guided by the principle that an independent researcher, using only the data and information
contained in these files, should be able to replicate every step of the data management and analysis. We
will demonstrate how these files are described, preserved, and made accessible for replication by thirdparties." This 60 minute presentation will be followed by a 30 minute business meeting.
