The timeline of it starting by its first uses and ending up with new uses in our daily life. - Some applications, which uses digital image processing. The mechanism of the process step by step. Summary of the report explains the importance of digital image processing currently. Definition of digital image processing: it’s the use of computer algorithms to perform image processing on digital images. As a subcategory or field of digital signal processing, digital image processing has many advantages over analog image processing. It allows a much wider range of algorithms to be applied to the input data and can avoid problems such as the build-up of noise and signal distortion during processing. Since images are defined over two dimensions (perhaps more) digital image processing may be modeled in the form of multidimensional systems. Timeline: Many of the techniques of digital image processing, or digital picture processing as it often was called, were developed in the 1960s at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Bell Laboratories, University of Maryland, and a few other research facilities, with application to satellite imagery, wire-photo standards conversion, medical imaging, videophone, character recognition, and photograph enhancement. The cost of processing was fairly high, however, with the computing equipment of that era. That changed in the 1970s, when digital image processing proliferated as cheaper computers and dedicated hardware became available. Images then could be processed in real time, for some dedicated problems such as television standards conversion. As generalpurpose computers became faster, they started to take over the role of dedicated hardware for all but the most specialized and computer-intensive operations. Some uses of it: - Old uses include Wire-Photos (sending photos through cables), Satellite Analyzing, and some Military Uses. - New uses include nearly every part of our life like Medical visualization, Law investigations, Face recognition teqniques, and RADAR*. RADAR: RAdio Detection And Ranging. Mechanism: The mechanism of working is divided into steps as followed: 1- Getting photos: the first step in the digital image processing operation starts with getting the image or images that we want to analyze, it might be a face image, product, fingerprint, place, or an out space photo as shown in the picture. Etc. it is called right now as the input image 2- Converting to data: after we got the image a program or a process will work on transferring that input into a numeric data that can be read by the computer 3- Splitting into layers: the transferred numbers now will be divided into layers according to the algorithm we want to use or the algorithm that the situation needs, it might be divided according to pixel location or according to colors sections or any other method 4- Arranging layers into tables: layers will be converted to tables in this part and each table has a headline to be used in the up coming processes 5- Analyzing numbers: an analyzing process will be now optimized on the given numbers deciding the right equation to perform on the data trying to get the best results 6- Applying equations: a simple and uncomplicated part, depends on pure math, numbers analyzing and converting data and numbers into useful information and answers 7- Studying results: it’s done right now, we got the answers we needed by following an easy process starting with a single earth photo that has been taken from the out space, ending up with a weather broadcast for the next couple days as shown in our example Summary: it appears that our daily life sometimes depends basically on the “digital image processing applications”, and it’s getting more common day by day because it can be trusted, easy to use, and effective. It started with two or three fields in the 1960s (Connections, Military..etc.) To become a major science which is used widely in a lot of companies, facilities, computers, and even mobile phones.
