Ambassador of Mentoring Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring Cambridge Community Services Cambridge Community Services (CCS) is seeking a Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassador of Mentoring to carry out an 11 month project to expand and strengthen our mentoring program. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people realize their full potential. Host Site: CCS is a community-based nonprofit with a mission to substantially improve academic, career, and civic outcomes for immigrant youth through rigorous and inspiring out-of-school experiences. For the last 23 years, CCS has operated the City Links program to help low-income immigrant students at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School set ambitious life goals and achieve them. The program’s holistic wrap-around model includes 1-1 mentoring, 1-1 tutoring, paid internships, weekly leadership seminars, job readiness training, and community service opportunities. CCS’ independent 20 year alumni impact evaluation revealed that program graduates complete college at twice the rate of their peer cohort and experience success entering the workforce. About AmeriCorps: AmeriCorps is a national community service program that gives people an opportunity to apply their skills and ideals towards helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. The Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring is an AmeriCorps Program where members serve in mentoring programs across Massachusetts. Organizational Description: Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP) is fueling the movement to expand empowering youth-adult relationships to meet the needs of communities across Massachusetts. We work with mentoring programs and youth development organizations to assess programmatic needs and organizational capacity to provide customized strategies that strengthen youth, families, and communities. Mass Mentoring Partnership’s AmeriCorps program, the Highland Street Corps Ambassadors of Mentoring, is currently recruiting 25 Ambassadors for the 2015-2016 program year, which begins on August 3, 2015 and runs through June 30, 2016. AmeriCorps Ambassadors complete one year of service at a host organization in Massachusetts. One Ambassador is placed at Cambridge Community Services. Key Responsibilities: The Ambassador of Mentoring at CCS will play a vital role in expanding our mentoring program and lead on a research project to strengthen and focus CCS mentoring practices. Working closely with the Volunteer Coordinator, he/she will have three main responsibilities: 1. Recruit, select, and onboard 40 mentors 2. Support 40 mentor/mentee matches throughout the academic year 3. Research and design a career-based mentoring proposal to guide CCS mentoring program in coming years Specific activities include but are not limited to: Outreach and recruitment of mentors online and at local organizations Interviewing and selecting volunteers Supporting mentor and mentee trainings Support during weekly mentor/mentee meeting nights Emailing, calling, texting, and providing resources to support mentor/mentee matches Supporting networking and appreciation events for mentors Research and design of career mentoring proposal Completing all professional development requirements of Highland Street AmeriCorps Qualifications: BA/BS strongly preferred Experience with and/or commitment to youth development, nonprofit organizations and their development Experience working with youth, immigrant groups, and/or volunteers a plus Comfortable with public speaking Strong writing and editing skills - some experience with blogging and social media preferred; experience using Salesforce a plus Excellent organization and communication skills The ability to work independently and as part of a team Proven leadership and project management abilities A passion for national and community service The desire to work with diverse people, organizations and communities Flexibility, adaptability, and a good sense of humor Positive attitude You must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the U.S. to be an AmeriCorps member.
