How does an event become accredited?
An event organiser must first complete an Event Accreditation Application form and relevant
paperwork such as risk assessment. Secondly, the forms will go before the SLSGB Lifesaving Sport
Commission for approval. The expected turn around for the decision is up to 20 working days. The
application will be evaluated by the Lifesaving Sport Commission as either a high, medium or low risk
event, and allocate an inspector accordingly.
Inspection Risk Matrix
Events will be monitored according to level of risk posed to SLSGB in line with the SLSGB
accreditations risk matrix, as below.

2 Unlikely
2 Slight Impact
2, 3 & 4 Low risk

results, re-inspect within 3 years.
The organisations should maintain
annual internal audits, which may
be spot checked.

internal audit results should be
provided by the applicant (subject
to agreement by the appropriate
commission or SLSGB delegate,
who may propose a full inspection)
Stop the activity. Improve or
increase controls immediately.
Inspect, as soon as reasonably
practicable, prior to recommencing
the activity
How does an event gain a service level agreement?
For an organisation to receive additional support and services, an Event Accreditation Application
form with relevant paperwork such as risk assessment should be completed along with a Service
Level Agreement. The expected turn around for the decision is up to 30 working days.
Will there be spot checks?
Yes, your event may be subject to a spot check Inspections. This is to assess the organisation is
completing their obligations under the accreditation process. Failure to undertake the
responsibilities of the agreement may result in the event accreditation status being revoked.
Are we insured as the event organisers?
Yes, you are insured for events undertaking SLSGB activities, when becoming an accredited event.
However, you must adhere to SLSGB rules, procedures and policies.
Are the people competing insured?
Yes, if they are current SLSGB members or SLSGB day members.
Are our helpers insured?
Yes, your helpers are insured if they are undertaking an SLSGB role at the events and deemed
suitably and sufficiently competent to undertake the role, and are current members.
Are the spectators and additional non life saving equipment insured?
No, the spectators and non-life saving equipment are not insured, but SLSGB members have public
liability insurance within their membership package. Further insurance may be required.
Are participants in non-accredited events insured?
No, non-accredited events are not covered under SLSGB insurance; neither are the participants or
event team.
What level of promotion will occur?
