Photos should be of an Official Scenic Historic Marker, preferably set in a landscape or other attractive or photogenic location. There is an emphasis on historic markers whose subject is women’s history, although all photographs of markers will be considered. For locations of women’s markers, please see the Historic Women Marker Initiative webpage on this site. Approximate locations of other markers can be found through the link on the Historic Marker page on the site. The text on the marker must be legible in the photograph. Photographs must be submitted as jpeg or tiff, high-resolution files at least 300 pixels per inch and at least 15 megabytes in size so they can be published poster size. Large photo files are accepted at nm.shpo@state.nm.us. Please notify Tom Drake at tom.drake@state.nm.us if you have submitted a photo. The image for the poster will be chosen by Historic Preservation Division staff, and the photographer will have a credit line integrated into the poster design. The poster generally is distributed to 2,000 people. HPD also reserves the right to use submitted photos for other publicity purposes related to Heritage Preservation Month and the roadside marker program.
