World Cultures is a required class to graduate, (no pass, no graduate). With that in mind it is my goal to help you adjust to high school and the expectations that come with it. You are now moving into a time of life when it is important that you make the effort to succeed. In this class we will work together for you to find success. What is World Cultures? This course gives you the chance to examine the world you live in. In it we will examine the geographic, cultural, political/historical, Economic and social development of major regions of the world. The world is now interconnected as never before, the better understanding you have of other cultures and people the better off you will be. What we will study and when? 1st Quarter: Class, Team, Group building, Themes, Map Skills, and Settlement types, Africa (Ch. 18-20), 2nd Quarter: Southwest Asia (the Middle East) (Ch. 21-23), Russia and the Republics (Ch. 15-17) 3rd Quarter: Europe (Ch. 12-14), South Asia (Ch. 24-26) and East Asia (Ch. 27-29) 4th Quarter: Latin America (Ch 9-11) and Native American What do you Need? 3-Ring Binder (Reviewed with student at end of each quarter) divided into the following sections: Maps, Book Work, Video Notes Writing utensil (pen, pencil) Grading Scale How do you earn your grade? 90-100 = A Grade is based on the following: 80-89 =B -Tests -Projects -Video Notes –Binder, -Cooperation and Productivity 70-79=C 60-69=D Expectations (Failing is not an option) Passes: 3 per quarter- bathroom, drink, tardy, late work, extra credit: 15 points each Be Responsible Be Respectful Be a Graduate I have read and understand the expectations for World Cultures Class.
